S.R. A1A Midblock Crossings
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) invites you to a public hearing regarding project plans on State Road (S.R.) A1A from Cocoa Isles Boulevard to St. Lucie Lane in Cocoa Beach, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 5:30 p.m.
The purpose of the project is to improve pedestrian safety along the corridor by constructing midblock crossings at four new locations and to provide minor pedestrian enhancements at side streets. The public hearing is being held to present information and receive community feedback.
The Department is offering multiple ways for the community to participate in the hearing. All participants, regardless of platform they choose, will participate in the same live hearing.
Virtual Option: Interested persons may join the Virtual Public Hearing (VPH) from a computer, tablet, or mobile device. A VPH is a free live presentation or webinar over the internet. For this option, advance registration is required by visiting the link below. Once registered, participants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the hearing online. Please note, Internet Explorer cannot be used to register or attend this webinar. Cocoa Beach Mid-Block crossing meeting tonight at 5:30pm information

The Department requests advance registration for this option to ensure all attendees are accommodated safely and according to social distancing guidelines. Dumbest idea ever. I almost hit someone last week because they pushed the crosswalk and started crossing soon as the yellow light started flashing, not even waiting to see if traffic would stop or if they saw them. I was only going 35mph and was in the intersection before I stopped. If it's a real crosswalk add a stoplight not just some flashing lights on the side of the road... and it's not the drivers, but the false impression it gives to the people crossing that it's safe to go. Also, I don't think any color lights on the side of the road will do it. How many drivers Ed classes say a blinking light out of the corner of your eye means stop. It's just not where drivers are looking and you can't see the light until you're up close vs a red stoplight which you see a 1000ft out.

I hate that it flashes as soon as the person presses the button. They'll cross as soon as it does without even checking

If they intend on keeping those in the crosswalks, it should have a time delay for the flashing
