Mrs. Dingpatch and I each knew a recipient! I think it's pretty cool!

Mrs. Dingpatch became friends with Richard Feynman during his investigation of the Challenger booster failure. She worked for USBI at KSC and, at the time, she still had access to her "Way Above" Top Secret clearances from the AF/CIA (as such, she was THE highest cleared person at KSC). So she was made his "guide" during his investigations at KSC because she knew every In-and-Out of the booster manufacturing, recovery and rebuild process.

I knew Paul Dirac while I was at FSU. After I got out of the Army I went straight into FSU. The VA made an arrangement for a faculty advisor for me. He was an Administrator at FSU but, also taught classes to maintain his "Tenure". His office was upstairs in the science building and I'd see him every week-or-two. Accross the hall from his office, and one-door-down, was the office of a much older fellow. I would see him in the elevators and in the hallways. He introduced himself as Paul. One day my advisor was late and otherwise not in his office. Paul happened to be coming up to his office and we spoke. He offered me a seat in his office while I was waiting. I have a seat and start eyeballing his office. Right away I am startled to see a Nobel Prize in Physics on his wall!!!! OMG! ", , , , got that in 1933, , , , ,". Then I see an old photo on his book shelf. He is with somebody I "knew"! WTF??? "Oh, that's J Robert and I at Alamogordo, , , , ,". WTF? I was in Basic Training with J Roberts son Peter and they looked identical! Of note was the fact that Paul and I would have small conversation in the public areas of the building and a lot of the students would almost "gawk", being that Paul and I were on a "First Name" basis! EVERYONE else addressed him as Doctor Dirac. Just Who In the Heck was I???

Yes. Word is that Dirac was a busy contributor to the FSU community and and encouragment to students.

Yes, it was pretty darn cool getting to talk with him. But, and, as I said above, it was a total WFT moment the first time I went into his office and saw the Nobel Prize on the wall!!!
