Been watching as I can, it is outstanding. I really enjoy old and roots country music a lot, not so much the pop country music that is popular currently.

Your sister is correct and is obviously the open minded sibling.

Dolly Parton is the original Oprah. She's fascinating every time she explains it. One of the first and definitely one of the best. And Merle Haggard has got to be the bob dillon of country.

Back when I was a kid in South Patrick Shores (two streets over from the much, well, not toooooooo much older, dingpatch), Sat afternoon meant Theater X (with Art Grindle jumping on cars and yelling, "Cut 'er loose, Howard!!!"), then Gordon Foley and wrestling from Tampa, and then Porter Wagner with his co-singer Dolly Parton. That was real country, not this over produced crap they have now. (As a somewhat funny aside, I went looking for some Porter/Dolly videos on Youtube recently. As the years passed, both of their hairdos got taller and taller side by side.)

I've seen Allman Bros twice in 70 and 71. Wet Willy and Marshall Tucker in 73. I don't like country music except some Johnny. He did this when he knew he was dying.

The Judds were on last night. Ashley Judd looks like a plastic remnant of her former self. They showed her when she was young and she was one of the most naturally beautiful women I have ever seen. She described her daughter as her 12 year old nemesis. That friction lead to Naomi making her lifelong friendship with her guitar and she and her mother harmonizing because they couldn't even speak to eachother. Crazy. It turns out I guess I do appreciate country and I have forgotten many of the songs that I was surprised I knew the words to.

I have only watched the first four and loved all of them. But, the biggest surprise to me was Brenda Lee. What a huge voice in such a small package. She reminded me of the Bill Cosby episode when Rudy was belting out that song. It was so powerful that I took it for a lip sync at the time, but, I now wonder.

That's Soley, not Foley

Ancient.

Grindle was almost as good as the Midnight Rider vs. Kevin Sullivan in a hangman's noose match.

Thanks for the memories.

My brother and I used to go to fiddlers conventions in the Carolinas and virginia to flat pick guitar, early 70's.
With long hair and surfboards, we were like Martians.
But we could actually play, so it was semi-ok.
I met, and worked with merle. Okay guy
Check out "white line fever" by the burrito brothers, great merle cover.
Jerry Garcia had a great bluegrass band called "old and in the way" with david grisman on mandolin.
Opening act was doc and merle watson. With earl scruggs....one of the best shows I've seen
That's country music folks.....
not some whiny cowboy.
Or the pathetic "hick hop".........
