There are two ways a pandemic ends;

Medically/ Biologically when the virus stops infecting people for whatever reason. That is not over and who knows when or if it will be.

or

Psychologically/socially when people get tired of all the precautions and just get on with their lives.

For some this was a non-issue, yep there is a virus out there if I get it I'll deal with it but I'm not changing my life, for some they stayed at home wore mask and are done with it. For some that response will come soon. For others it will take longer.

Who are you?

When will the Covid-19 pandemic end? And how?

According to historians, pandemics typically have two types of endings: the medical, which occurs when the incidence and death rates plummet, and the social, when the epidemic of fear about the disease wanes.

"When people ask, 'When will this end?,' they are asking about the social ending," said Dr. Jeremy Greene, a historian of medicine at Johns Hopkins.

In other words, an end can occur not because a disease has been vanquished but because people grow tired of panic mode and learn to live with a disease. Allan Brandt, a Harvard historian, said something similar was happening with Covid-19: "As we have seen in the debate about opening the economy, many questions about the so-called end are determined not by medical and public health data but by sociopolitical processes."

There will be some respite over summer, but come flu season there's an excellent chance that all hell breaks loose all over again.

But, since 100,000 dead so far is no big deal, it's about time we get over petty BS like 9-11 and the Vietnam war. Suck it up Americans, and just go shopping.

Yeah, having a difficult time here understanding the disregard for human life in all this. We can prevent deaths. People are just choosing not to, and for selfish reasons to boot. We had 100k deaths in 2.5 months with some mitigation. Somehow people think it is miraculously going away. Meanwhile there are still 1k+ deaths per day. The virus is starting to spike in the areas that "opened", like 30-40% spikes in cases. So it is your choice to let people die, call it over, and give in than rather than suck it up and deal with some hardships. Seems like a cowards way out, maybe even suicidal. Either way it is pretty shitty. We can mitigate this.

Daner just wants it to be over. But Science doesn't care what Daner wants.

A pandemic does not end because "people get tired of all the precautions and just get on with their lives. "

I'm sure people were tired of precautions with the Spanish Flu circa June 1918 as well, but that didn't mean it was going to end because of it.

I'm sure gay men in 1982 were tired of all the precautions and just wanted to.. you get the picture. If not, ask Cheater

Daner, what is it that you want to do?

Other than eating out, I am living the exact same life?

Same here. And by not eating our I have saved a shit ton of money. In fact going forward, going to eat out much much less.

Biggest impact is schooling kids from home. Other than that, been doing what I always do - surfing, fishing, hanging out at the beach. Built a huge ass deck out back. I am fortunate to live where I do.

Some need to be told what to do, some are capable of independent thought. Some seem to be OK with being "ruled", and some are not. It will be over when the media finds something else to keep the fear/divide....until the Fall, when COVID comes back. However, the narrative at that time will be the need for mail-in voting. Its the only shot the Democrats have at cheating (I mean "winning") Good news is, with the exception of the staunch sheep that gobble up whatever the media/Democrats tell them, a lot of people are waking up to how corrupt, and unconstitutional the Democratic party likes to operate.

Yes, the Trump special panel on voter fraud folded after finding nothing and yet here we are...more voter fraud.

Come on Opie, you know you will back Trump no matter what, even if it is glaringly obvious that he lost.

Think about it, what has he done as president? No much at all. Now think about all the things he as done that you Republicans once hated? The ACA, still there. The debt, way fucking bigger than ever. Bail outs, he has even attributed his name to the checks. Wall Street, trillions in rescue funds. Fact it, he has played all of you as clowns since the day he walked into office. Does he deserve another four years? Fuck no.

This is far from over. We have too many dumb and inconsiderate people in this country for it to be over. It's only just begun.....

Yes, COVID-19 will be with us for quite some time to come. Sure, it may be "calming down" a little bit but, for 2 to 3 years more years it will be the bane of ICU beds.

And, it does seem that this is all being handled in a half-ass way for sure. At many times we can see that the Clown Car is filled to capacity, not with Clowns but, simple Buffoons.

Well, , , , for sure enough, , , , it is very convenient to talk about "only so many cases, only so many deaths", , , but, , , , ,

Is it also convenient to not consider, or mention, that all these numbers would be MUCH higher if we did not get "locked down"?

In Brevard County, FL, out of roughly 600,000 residents, we have had 399 confirmed cases and 12 deaths.

So, 0.067% of the population caught it. 0.002% of the overall population died from it. And 3% of the confirmed cases died from it.

What should that tell you? If we can create this hysteria from this then we can create it for anything. In the fall, this could easily be repeated just using a new strain of the regular flu. I genuinely believe that the experts were worried this would be much worse than it ended up being. I also believe that plenty of others are taking copious notes on how this is playing out and how they can recreate it to suit their agendas.

3% of the people that got covid here die. You like those odds? 5.8% of the people that got covid in the USA died. You can water it down all you want. But the fact is we were distancing for 2.5 months and still have 100k+ deaths. Now we open up, FFS. It's going to get bad quick. The experts were right on the money. They predicted 100k - 200k deaths by June with social distancing.

The White House projects 100,000 to 200,000 Covid-19 deaths
At least.

Fuck no.

Here are his accomplishments....even though I know your blinded by hatred and probably won't read them:

Economic growth last quarter hit 4.2 percent.
New unemployment claims recently hit a 49-year low.

Your problem HAP is you're so fueled by hatred, you can't grasp the fact that it was a virus that caused the un-employment, not Trump's policies. There is a big difference between a pandemic induced slump, and economic decline. The kicker is, even if Trump had ultimate authority over the states, and made them shut down. You would scream. Probably just as much as if he didn't. You and most of the lock-step democrats are so filled with hatred...there is litteraly nothing he can do to appease you. Plus, its like your almost giddy over the f act we are in the condition we are in. You would rather see the country fail than it succeed...because of your hatred towards Trump. Sickening...really.

Nope. You say that from the comfort of living in Florida, and you're allowed to do as you please. I'm talking about the ones that live in California, Chicago, Dallas, all the other areas that are on severe lock down. The ones that are arrested for congregating at church. The ones that are arrested/fined for peacefully assembling and protesting. The business owners that are fined/locks changed on their operation because they needed to feed their family. You know, all the things the Constitution forbids government from doing.

It ends with a vaccine for $hits sake

daner going with the "the things I want to do are too important to worry about a virus" response

when did trump tweet that one? It's one of his more genius moves. It is dotardesque in the concept. The selfish not caring about others aspect is definitely there. It is thin in reasoning and can be abandoned quickly if polling goes south (it is).

The perfect GOP talking point!

Stayed local. It was super fun; especially getting in early, cutting across the south grain and into the left bowls. First ride on a new board too. It a poly and much whippier. I was doing the off-the-tops too early. lol

How it will end is simple. People will refuse to wear masks for the sake of other people and people will refuse to do business with those people. Not all, but many, enough. These same people will wonder why things haven't gotten back to normal, why the economy is still in the shitter, and why their business is still doing poorly. These very same people will eventually get the virus then spread it to people they do business with, potentially leading to liability because they refused to take even basic precautions. These same people will also spread it to their loved ones, neighbors, and friends, ultimately being responsible for getting numerous people getting sick and possibly killing someone in the process. Maybe some will change their perspective after being deathly ill, watching someone they love become deathly ill, or having their spouse/parents/child die alone in a hospital room. Maybe they still won't change their perspective despite this cuz AMERIKA!

This pandemic has taught me that some people are simply too stupid, ignorant, stubborn, and selfish. They care so little about other people that they can't even bother with the minor inconvenience of wearing a mask around others and backing the fuck up 6ft. They can't even handle basic, minor precautions for the sake of everyone, including themselves. They engage in self defeating behavior because it is convenient and well, because fuck everyone else that isn't them. Really, at this point I am just going to sit back and watch this shit show unfold and not even bother with stupid people. Natural selection has a purpose and part of it is weeding out people like this.

I think the whole thing is pretty much similar to unprotected sex in the early days of HIV. You can take chances, and you might be ok. Or you might die.

The best thing to do is manage your risk, take precautions, and make sure those "in your space" do too.

This promotion of irresponsible behavior is political hysteria from the right, who desperately need to keep their followers foaming at the mouth over something.... anything will do.

Hap: "3% of the people that got covid here die. You like those odds? 5.8% of the people that got covid in the USA died. You can water it down all you want. But the fact is we were distancing for 2.5 months and still have 100k+ deaths. Now we open up, FFS. It's going to get bad quick. The experts were right on the money. They predicted 100k - 200k deaths by June with social distancing."

Quick? How quick. There has been no real difference in the infection rate during stay at home or since we have opened up. The deaths will come regardless is what the data is showing. But why look at it when you can selectively post your worst nightmare stats.

1. It takes a couple of weeks.
2. People are still distancing regardless of "opening up".
3. Not "selectively posting nightmare stats". Posting actual stats not watered down stats.

The politicians may have "opened up" but most people are still hunkered down. The smart ones anyway. Travel is way down, people aren't getting off planes from all over yet.

My company has made it clear that they are NOT going to follow any opening guidelines from the US government. The view of the USA from Europe and APAC is not flattering.

Okay. A few weeks for increased infection to show up eh. Bet you got some stats besides wishful thinking for that statement.

Well keep your hopes up. No sign of it yet.

BTW no one said to stop social distancing or stop practicing good hygiene. That will keep you from getting it.

Trump cut taxes by 40%, yet averaged the same growth and less job creation as Obama.

The 40% cut came with no strings attached and the companies borrowed money and bought back their own stocks. This lead to the highest rate of corporate debt in decades.

...and all of this was before the virus.

The economy wasn't great and several indicators pointed to a possible recession. The instant 10,000 point drop from the virus is absolute proof of this fact.

$6 trillion in recovery for a two month blip? That is a failure of epic proportions.

Virtue signaling is the wheezing fatass staring daggers at people wearing masks while he waddles around publix or all the right wingers sharing the meme that says they have health reasons to not wear a mask and they are going to use HIPPA and ADA to sue any business that denies them entry into the ground. Those are the lead mask virtue signallers. You know the TPabbys and Daners and their constant insistence that following basic CDC guidance is tyranny and sheeple chicken littles.

Pretty sure you've got that flipped around, Scom. The ones giving "eye daggers" are the ones that are wearing the masks, whom also happen to be the same ones that will snitch on you for not social distancing. Can't think of a finer example of virtue signaling than snitching on your neighbors, can you? How many people have you ratted out, Scom? To the rest of the libtards, not one of your intelligent, substance filled responses answered the question of "what does good look like to you?" Rusty- you did have a point with the population density. You would think Miami, Jacksonville, and Tampa would put Florida up their with their population density, especially since they high a higher percent of their population in the high risk group. But, it didn't. Why do you think that is?

Then you have a crapload of explaining to do with Japan!

I can't wait to hear this bullshit story!

"As of Monday, the East Asian nation had reported 16,628 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. Of those infected, 13,612 have already recovered and 851 have died. Tokyo, the nation's capital with 14 million residents, was the hardest-hit part of the country, with more than 5,100 cases. On Monday, the city reported just eight new infections."

trump "was" a citizen of new york and let it go down in flames to the virus! Wouldn't you think he'd be working to help ground zero? No the petulant whiner is a $itch about everything.

Florida welcomes him? He's a zero gain.

Guys, we get it. This is all Trump's fault. You need someone better than him to rule over you....like Lori Lightfoot or maybe even Cuomo? Just continue hiding under your rock, collecting your paychecks, until those that still need one kill themselves off. Then you'll have the country full of Karens that you desire.

Trump Playbook:

1. Make an agenda fulfilling, controversial or inciting statement, that is either a partial truth or complete lie.

2. Use phrases like: "This is very powerful", "They are very nasty", "This is the greatest", "They are very wonderful", "They are very horrible", "This is like something never seen before", etc.

3. Follow this with a vague reference supporting his statements. Examples: "People are saying", "I am hearing that"

4. Repeat 2 and 3 several times

5. Attack and discredit any media pointing out inconsistency, discrepancy, or untruths using things like "You are fake news", "This is why your ratings are horrible", "You will never succeed", etc.

6. Echo on various media platforms including social media

6. Repeat as needed

If you actually sat down and watched his pressers live, especially when they were occurring on a daily basis, you will see this is repeated each and every time. It is predictable to a fault. If people still used watches, you could 'set your watch by it'.

1379 deaths yesterday from covid-19. Deaths are on the rise again.

"Two weeks to the day after the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned Governor Tony Evers' "Safer at Home" order, the state has set a one-day record for new coronavirus cases."

Meanwhile in Titusville....

It doesn't, duh. You need to ask the President why he was using that very playbook to politicize his daily task force briefings instead of being the leader this country needed.

You pay attention.

The president using that playbook to politicize task force briefings and push agenda instead of leading is absolutely part of the reason why this is Trump's fault and will still be when it gets worse again. He isn't leading at all, let alone leading by any sort of proper example.

Do try and keep up.

Yeah...what agenda is that? By watching the press briefing, seems the only ones with an agenda is the media, looking for ways to make the President look bad...which is gobbled up tenaciously by the hate filled sheeple....like yourself?

Yes, is this "just a coincidence" or is this "what happens when you do what you just did"?

Wisconsin saw a record number of new coronavirus cases and deaths reported in a single day on Wednesday, two weeks after the state's Supreme Court struck down its statewide stay-at-home order.

The state reported 599 new known COVID-19 cases on Wednesday with 22 known deaths, according to Wisconsin's Department of Health Services, the highest recorded daily rise since the pandemic began there. As of Wednesday, the state had more than 16,460 known cases and 539 known deaths, according to the department.

Yep- take a look at Wisconsin's Daily Covid Case chart. Looks like the stairs of a Mayan Pyramid.

Didn't TFool say nothing would happen to Wisconsin? Or it's immune because it's a Red State? Or is it a blue state now LOL

Japan used masks, testing, contact tracing, and targeted quarantines. Compare its Covid rates to Brazil and the US.

FOX headline on the ticker this morning said that WHO did not recommend masks for "the healthy". Article headline and beginning of text looked like that was official contemporaneous WHO guidance. I took the bait and clicked. Article started out by quoting a WHO Dr. back in mid March stating that masks should be reserved for symptomatic people. Buried at the bottom of the article was a fairly long and factual paragraph about a lot of subsequent studies that have demonstrated that general widespread mask use significantly blunts transmission and that the Asian countries that adopted widespread mask use have had much lower RATES of infection than countries that have not. Some have even out performed lock-down countries. But FOX buried that at the bottom with the headline being the message it wanted to communicate. So why is FOX trying to make people sick?

You are making assumptions. The Japanese have a very different culture. They are a very hygienic people -clean, smart and not real huggy type culture. Compare that to Italy were you kiss everybody. That is just one example. The U.S. and Brazil have cultures inbetween those in some ways. I'm not saying Japan didn't do it right. Just that there are other cultural factors that are huge for keeping people healthy.

It will churn in the background until Fall flu season.

Capitalism is based on the ridiculous notion that you can enjoy limitless growth in a closed, finite system.

In biology, such behavior of cells is called "cancer".

Let's hope it mutates into nothing before then.

Well it isn't seasonal judging by how much it ran through equatorial regions and the southern hemisphere at the end of their summer. Nor do I believe there is any science supporting that it is. We did beat back the infections in most places due to the measures being taken and there are still people being as safe as they can despite the large amount of people pretending there isnt a pandemic going on. It will take a while to regain the foothold that it had, will it before the end of summer? Dunno.
