And it is our continuing duty to confront them.

When it comes to the unity of America, those days seem distant from our own. Malign force seems at work in our common life that turns every disagreement into an argument, and every argument into a clash of cultures. So much of our politics has become a naked appeal to anger, fear and resentment. That leaves us worried about our nation and our future together.

I come without explanations or solutions. I can only tell you what I've seen At a time when religious bigotry might have flowed freely, I saw Americans reject prejudice and embrace people of Muslim faith. That is the nation I know.
At a time when nativism could have stirred hatred and violence against people perceived as outsiders, I saw Americans reaffirm their welcome to immigrants and refugees. That is the nation I know.
At a time when some viewed the rising generation as individualistic and decadent, I saw young people embrace an ethic of service and rise to selfless action. That is the nation I know.

On September 11 2001, F.D.N.Y Firefighter Stephen Gerard Siller was off duty and on his way to play golf with his brother when he heard the news of a plane hitting the North Tower of the World Trade Center over his scanner. Immediately abandoning his plans, Stephen drove to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, which was closed for security purposes and as a result strapped 60lbs of equipment on his back and ran on foot to the Twin Towers to assist his emergency services colleagues.

Stephen made the ultimate sacrifice and tragically lost his life during the events of that day. As a result of his heroics and admirable bravery, his family established The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which honours the sacrifice Stephen made and also military personnel, emergency services and first responders. A run/walk is now held annually in New York to honour the final steps that Stephen took and is widely recognised as one of the top 5k runs in America.

Thats pretty funny actually, love that movie. I'm always here just not gonna partake in the pointless barrage back and forth anymore. It not healthy and does nothing to make the world a better place, only worse.
Tarnishing selfless acts of heroism is just wrong though, I wasn't raised that way and will always step up to defend them.

After four years noticing that some of the massive funding allocated by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health for NYFD relief has been coming up short, Prezant announced this year, "Here we have sick World Trade Center-exposed firefighters and EMS workers at a time when the city is having difficult financial circumstances due to COVID-19, and we're not getting the money we need to be able to treat these heroes."

As Congressman Pete King (R-NY) advised Prezant some time ago, one of New York City's bureaucracies is in a dispute with the federal bureaucracy over payment of Medicare bills. As a result, and in accordance with rules and regulations that long precede the Trump administration, some "career civil servant" in the Treasury Department has withheld a total of $3.7 million from the NYFD fund over the last four years - withholding that began under Barack Obama's administration. King is trying to resolve the issue.
