Saw pics the Sea leveler went out of canaveral to the otherside and scored some big tuna and mahi, that is a bucket list trip for me!

My buddy did the trip last week and his son got a 78 pound YFT on a Cabo 60 with a popper and 50 lb leader. The thing dumped the reel, so he grabbed the spool to pop it off at the leader knot and by some act of God, the thing stopped! He didn't say the specifics, but I think it took and hour and a half to land. I fought one for more than two hours on a spinner at the buoy last year, but it was our second fish and I wanted it in the boat, so I took longer than need be. I will be grabbing the BIG spinner with 65 braid next time.

Use caution. A good day over there will seriously spoil you to fishing our side of the Stream. lol

man, that sounds so fun! That's a beast of a fish on a 60. My buddy has a pair of Cabo 80s... those are bad-ass reels. We use them for jiggin up cobes and bottom fishing. I recently got a Boca 50. Think it'll be a fun one. Still need a rod for it, but intention is for a smaller offshore plug rod (already have a baitrunner 8000 and Penn Spinfisher 6500 for jiggin) ..... would love to do an "otherside" trip one day. it's soooo far for us up here. (we did once do a stream drift at night and got a 136# sword.

Is the Boca 50 the same size as the Cabo 50? I looked at the Cabo for snook fishing, but the 50 is the same reel as the 40, but with a larger spool?

I have a Boca 80 and it's hilariously giant, so I am wondering if they are a larger reel when compared to the Cabos.

Not really sure, but I don't think so .... I grabbed it when Tackledirect.com had it 50%off It's only 4oz heavier but different specs (drag, gear, etc): https://www.tackledirect.com/quantum-boca-ptse-spinning-reels.html I guess it could be good for BIG snook..... like I said, I want to use it for offshore plugs, and maybe tarpon. My friends have some CABO 80s... they are beasts, but thats not so bad when jiggin a cobia up from 130' actually looking at the specs.... pretty similar (less drag, prob less quality on internals). Kinda the "poor mans cabo"

I call my 80 Boca a Zebco Cabo. lol

If it's that solid, it must be larger than the Cabo 50. I need something for Inlet bucktail chucking and that sounds like the right reel.

Havent used it yet, but specs seem like its the same size as the Cabo50....just lesser internals (1 less bearing, etc).... fits in my hand. Quite a bit smaller than my Spinvisher V 6500 .... I wanted something smaller but powerful... supposedly a reel this size (13.7oz) with 35# of drag. It was an impulse purchase.. HA. We'll see how she goes

You would laugh at the size of my 80. I have it on a 30 to 180 Paraflex Star and the rod looks like a toy.

Ive fished the Cabo 80s.... I didnt think they were too bad (maybe they were 60s but I dont think so) They have them on TFO rods.... I whupped some red snapper and cobia with em. I have a baitrunner 8000 and a spinfisher 6500...... 10000 for a spinning reel is just dumb though. Weighs alot more than my senator. ... what's the point then?

The Cabo is the best made reel for the price by far. I bought the Boca on a whim just like you and I'm happy with it for the money I paid, but if I was paying retail, I'd definitely spend the extra cash on the Cabo.

I bought a China reel during an extreme bout of lock-down boredom. It is a "baitrunner" with something like 12 bearings and a sweetly milled long cast spool. It was $50 with free shipping and I was trying to game the system and thought, well hoped, it might be a Thunnus level reel for 20% of the price. Nope. The base housing for the baitrunner drag is made of an incredibly cheap plastic. I am talking plastic Easter egg level plastic. One small drop and it's in the trash. I actually laughed at the gaps in the supposed sealed body. There are screen doors with more water resistance. Needless to say, it's going on a surf rod; a bull Whiting will push it's limits. God forbid I ever hook a real fish on that thing. At $50, I'm thinking I over paid by about $50.

My final thought: Too good to be true wins again.
