I thought this would be a clip of vintage Wave tools from the 80s.

I was right.

The Pope Bisects were clever but not really a good idea.

I got to handle the first carbon fiber Pope Bisect at Reinhold Industries. It was the front half and untrimmed. Reinhold made the carbon fiber skins for me for. the Mast Mounter Sight on the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior.

I was there for a program review and their one corporate type guy said something like "so, you're a surfer, , ,? I've got something to show you". He took me to a 'lab' kinda area where the front end was. Pretty fresh out of the autoclave bag mold and they were 'inspecting' it prior to the trimming and such.

I see it and pick it up while exclaiming about it being a Pope Bisect. "Do you know Mr. Pope?" "No, but everybody knows who he is". We had a very short talk and he said, , , come with me. He took me into his corporate meeting room and a lot of them came in to hear about Morey-Pope, etc. They just thought that he was some rich crazy.

Yow. The Pope hardware is pretty well designed and the Bisect does make travel with a longboard easier.

Notice how none of the Pope Bisects have survived? Maybe in the coming era of new materials, we can get one to survive the airlines and more than two sessions.

Perhaps a surf museum could use a Pope as a novelty item?
