![]() ![]() ![]() Something tells me we going past Wendy this season. can't wait for all the Karen memes to come out for that storm. Let's see where Karen wants to complain to this time! Some possible headlines: Sebastien hits Sebastian? Tanya gonna take our knees out. Nestor hits Oil rigs. Yo Andrea ... Hopefully all staying off coast and we get some really good surf this Hurr season. I just started a daily swimming routine to keep the paddling muscles in-tune. That is my Hurricane prepardness. Also, cleaning the cold water wax off and applying tropical wax. And, with that said, models shows a weak low off the Hatteras coast the next couple days. Spin Baby Spin! (knock on wood). Tropical Weather Outlook NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 800 AM EDT Tue Jun 3 2025 For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of America: Offshore of the Southeastern U.S. Coast: A non-tropical area of low pressure is forecast to form near or offshore of the southeastern U.S. coast along a frontal boundary during the next couple of days. If the low remains offshore, it could gradually develop some subtropical or tropical characteristics later this week while moving northeastward at 10 to 15 mph. * Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent. * Formation chance through 7 days...low...10 percent. |

![]() NOAA's (whatever is left of it) outlook for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, which goes from June 1 to November 30, predicts a 30% chance of a near-normal season, a 60% chance of an above-normal season, and a 10% chance of a below-normal season. The agency is forecasting a range of 13 to 19 total named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher). Of those, 6-10 are forecast to become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 3-5 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). NOAA has a 70% confidence in these ranges. "NOAA and the National Weather Service are using the most advanced weather models and cutting-edge hurricane tracking systems to provide Americans with real-time storm forecasts and warnings," said Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. "With these models and forecasting tools, we have never been more prepared for hurricane season." "As we witnessed last year with significant inland flooding from hurricanes Helene and Debby, the impacts of hurricanes can reach far beyond coastal communities," said Acting NOAA Administrator Laura Grimm. "NOAA is critical for the delivery of early and accurate forecasts and warnings, and provides the scientific expertise needed to save lives and property." |

One positive with NOAA is that the 20 mile buoy is back and reporting swell height and period. That sucker has been out for months. That should help improve surf forecasting models with real data rather that virtual.

What hurricane season? [IMG][/IMG] Staff at the Federal Emergency Management Agency were caught off-guard and left bewildered when the disaster relief agency's new acting head David Richardson told personnel that he was previously unaware the United States has a hurricane season, which started Sunday. Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Is anyone else bothered by the fact that major storms are forming in the Caribbean Sea? A thunderstorm moves off of Cartagena, a week later it's a Cat 4 tossing manatees onto I75. ------------------------- I was right. Edited: 06/04/2025 at 08:54 AM by Cole |

That new rapid intensification thing is something.
Beryl set a record last year, TD to Major in 42 hours. That makes emergency management planning funner. After spending 6 hours creeping along US 1 to get from Sugarloaf to Homestead last weekend, I wondered what an evacuation would look like and understand why many chose to stay for Irma. |

The storm that wrecked Abaco a few years ago (Dorian?) is a model for our future. Interesting that the Space Force is relocating some activities from Colorado Springs to Patrick SFB. I assume construction will be to Tyndall AFB standards.

Comments on that video shows how many people think they get their weather from an app, like the many surfers who believe surfline does their own wave forecasts

Concepts of a Hurricane Plan.. anything to fund those tax cuts for the wealthy ![]() Trump says FEMA to be wound down after hurricane season June 10 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he planned to start "phasing out" the Federal Emergency Management Agency after the hurricane season and that states would receive less federal aid to respond to natural disasters. Trump also said he planned to distribute disaster relief funds directly from the president's office. "We're going to do it much differently," Trump said in a briefing at the White House in response to a question about when he planned to eliminate FEMA and what his message was to governors regarding states bearing more disaster-relief costs. "We're going to give out less money," he said. "We're going to give it out directly. It'll be from the president's office. We'll have somebody here, could be Homeland Security." In an apparent reference to his plans to wind down the disaster-relief agency, Trump added: "I'd say after the hurricane season we'll start phasing it out." The U.S. hurricane season officially began on June 1 and lasts through November. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecast last month that this year's season would be above normal with as many as 10 hurricanes. Trump's comments were among the most direct to date indicating his intention to significantly downsize if not outright eliminate FEMA, which has an annual budget of around $30 billion and employed more than 20,000 people, including reservists, prior to layoffs earlier this year. Distributing funds directly from the White House would also mark a departure from current protocols, under which FEMA oversees the dissemination of financial aid to the states following the president's declaration of a disaster. Also at the briefing, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that FEMA "fundamentally needs to go away as it exists" and that governors were being encouraged to work together to respond to disasters. "We're building communication and mutual aid agreements among states ... so that they can stand on their own two feet with the federal government coming in in catastrophic circumstances with funding," Noem said. FEMA is part of the Department of Homeland Security. Don't like it? Find a Protest this weekend.
