WTF is Happening in Pavones!?

At the end of May 2025, a series of demolitions took place in Costa Rica's most iconic surf town, Pavones. But the history of land ownership in this part of the world is convoluted. This video dives into what on earth is happening in Pavones.

I was right.

The last time I was at Pavones was 2019 and was a zoo of surfers. The SUP surfers take all the set waves, then I was getting cut off when I did catch a wave on the outside. It's getting built up and Americanized.

My first trip there was 1992. Wild jungle back then. I took my wife there on our honeymoon and we camped on the point right next to the river claro. It was pretty awesome. Still is I'm sure. The wave is great. But, I'll probably never go back. And, if I did I'd probably stay at that 5 star hotel on the point. . I'm part of the problem I'm sure.
