MATT KECHELE: The crazy story behind surfing's aerial innovator and Kelly Slater's mentor

His boards were true Florida boards in the 80's. We didn't know how to pronounce his name down here in palm Beach county and it was never the same mispronunciation twice. I was quite surprised to actually learn the proper pronunciation years later. I had a poster of him at Sebastian inlet when I was a kid where he ripped the top off of a clean wedged right. I was always impressed with him for doing that on waves in Florida.

Ketch a lay?

Saw him ripping along with one other guy just north of the inlet on a hurricane swell early 90's.
Everyone else and their brothers at inlet and Spanish House.
Me and my buddy, we were just out there taking notes.

Imposter - he was doing it all from behind a ski.

They just always cut that part out of the video.

That's why you rarely saw him drop in.

Somehow he just always had this speed up???
