She really killed it. Her heat against Steph earlier in the event was the turning point for woman's surfing hopefully. To me Caroline's style is noticeably getting better. There are only a few women on the tour that put style and power together. Bells should be another good venue for her.
First contest with new parity for women's event payout. So $. Good for the WSL. Yes Kolohe got jacked. He was right there to keep Italo from getting that wave as well and let him go on it. Not a 7 but in hindsight with a minute to go he should have taken it. Parsons coaching Marks and Andino. |

I'm sure I'll get worked for asking, but why should/would they pay the women the same as the men? It's not like they're building TV sets. They don't pay the QS surfers the same as the CT surfers, because the quality of the surfing is inferior.

Couldn't agree more. Why should surfers get paid? It's not like they're building TVs; no actual skills. Kelly would make a great bagger at Publix and hey, at least the Duke owned a gas station....

I watched the heat on replay. She really did surf better than Steph Gilmore AND in Australia. Bustin' Down The Doors!

The equal pay thing is interesting. The women have to qualify, travel, and put up with the same $hit as the guys. If the women's package is as good as last event then it is assuredly worth it. In the end they probably sell as many bathing suits as the guys do?

BTW, Equal pay meant she got $100K for that win. Put that one check in a stock fund, leave it and retire at 40! She's only 17!!

I guess a quantitative way to evaluate this question is to ask how many women's heats you watched from that contest vs how many men's? There may be folks out there who watched mostly women's heats.

If more people want to watch hot female rippers they should make way more money than their male counterparts. And vice versa or whatever... Puff puff, pass -------------------------
