I was seeing CFLDave get great waves on a trip he took and the summer was feeling a bit bleak so I thought I should go somewhere. Waited for a storm (two coming from below New Zealand) and emailed Kim at
Popoyo Surf Lodge on Sunday. Made it there on Friday just prior to the swell hitting. Caught waves all week at least two sessions a day and got back early yesterday morning. The first day was pre-swell but nice size and surfed Lances and Playgrounds for hours with just our group out. The swell was sizable and I surfed Lances Left and Popoyo well overhead for the peak of it. Mark Healy and Dan Malloy surfed the outer reef. It got smaller from there but plenty left and the points worked (lots of lefts there) and the beach breaks got less heavy. Going to Popoyo will maximize your surf time because if you want it the guides will ensure you are on it whether by boat or driving. The guides also take people to other things (Sunday Funday, and such) if they are so inclined. It was nice to get it done and break up summer. Nothing lasts forever.

Nicaragua heavy lifting while the beach breaks.

Playgrounds is such a fun wave

The cold beer lady. I went out on a boat five of the six whole days I was there. Cold beer is a means of making it hurt less.

Surfline has a Santana cam.

Outer reef. That perfect looking wave is heavy.

There are plenty of hollow waves there.

Nothing like surgical strike. Thanks for the pics!

Nice, welcome back to Post-Surf-Vacation-Depression. Also, known as PCRD (post costa rica depression), or PND (Post Nica Depression). But, prob best as PSVD as many of us do it during the summer. Come on Hurricane Season!
