Obviously. The Cape Hatteras area has been battered in recent years, and communities like Kill Devil Hills suffered serious flooding, so this is coming with little time for recovery. About the only good news is the new bridge over Oregon Inlet. I'm left suspecting that it may outlive the road from there to Buxton.

Terrible timing, relatives up there said the business were finally getting over the Florence damage from Sept 2018 . I am worried the progress will be erased by Dorian

Moved from Sarasota up to Wilmington two weeks ago to start a Masters Degree at UNCW. Living in downtown and so far it hasn't been too windy. I drove 15 minutes south towards Carolina Beach about an hour ago and the bands were coming in a lot stronger down there. Some gnarly tornadoes popping up around the area though. Here's footage of one from up in Emerald Isle. https://twitter.com/NCEmergency/status/1169632309143887873

Good luck. Its never easy living on sand with the ocean in sight.

Thanks. I am glad y'all dodged this one. I was getting really worried for my parents in Central Florida. Sucks being away during these things.

It looks like Charleston may have escaped the "historic" flooding that was a possibility, but there's still widespread flooding, which has become almost an annual event. Winds at Charleston Air Force Base have gusted up to 61. No doubt higher at the coast. Myrtle Beach has tornadoes. Wilmington north looks worse.

Big eye right over Cape Hatteras, big mass of storm over the sounds and land all the way north into Virginia.

The local weather doofus was in KDH NC doing a Cantori. Had to jump out into the wind and yell into the mike. The storm sucked up all the heat. It's 76 degrees.

Ocracoke suffered historic flooding. People hid upstairs or in their attics. Water blew away from Pamlico Sound, then blew back fast over a 2-hour period. Buxton, serious flooding. Avalon Pier lost its final 60 or so feet. Some idiot drove his truck into the ocean at Kill Devil Hills.
