My first board I got when I moved here in 74, was a Don from Hawaii twin. It was 5'2". I was 6'5" and 210. My head that was the only thing above water when I was out. I didn't care, I was out. My current board is a 7'2" Doyle. Flotation +.

Been there. The early Slater era 17 inch wide 2 inch thick thrusters were more ski than board.
