The City of Cocoa Beach is scheduled to declare a State of Emergency due to the
Coronavirus pandemic during a special City Commission meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday,
March 17, 2020, at Cocoa Beach City Hall.

The State of Emergency would empower the City to take actions necessary to protect
public health and safety, including closures of public beaches, parks, restaurants, bars, or
other public gatherings if conditions warrant such closures.

Ron Jon Surf Shop, which prides itself on being open 24 hours a day 365 days a year for
decades, announced that it will close at the end of business on March 20 and remain
closed through March 29.

City of Cocoa Beach - Government
42 mins ยท
NOTICE -ATTENTION- NOTICE

Beachside parks and beachside public parking access areas along the 72-mile Brevard
County shoreline will be closed beginning on Thursday in an attempt to contain the
spread of COVID-19.

Closings begin on Thursday, with plans that all County and municipal beachside parks
and public access areas being off limits to the public by Friday morning.
Patrick Air
Force Base beach and parking access will also be closed.
Spring breakers and other
beachgoers are being asked to avoid beach areas as a public safety measure in
response to the spread of coronavirus and in compliance with mass gathering
recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC has
advised people to avoid mass gatherings of more than 10 people, and recommends
social distancing of 6 feet.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday issued an executive order stating that
beachgoers must adhere to CDC guidelines. Due to excessive crowds and large spring
break gatherings, beach closings were implemented earlier this week in Miami Beach
and Fort Lauderdale.

Beachside parks and beachside public parking access areas will remain closed until further notice.

It looks like state parks in general have shut down camping, but Sebastian Inlet looks like an exception. Their status may be a bit unusual due to cooperation with the Inlet District.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Going to the beach is a mass gathering now?

It's a variation on the flu. Get over it!

Oh and the CDC said groups of 50 until our President, unilaterally made up his own number.

Not true. I have been camping there for the last 3 days. We were told to leave when our time was up. Many just left on their own. Cops turning people away at the entrance. Cops on the beach just riding around. No big deal.

I support the beach ban. Just way too many tourist from all over coughing and sneezing.

From FL Today article on beaches:

Brevard County Communications Director Don Walker said the beaches themselves will remain open to the public.
