'The party is over': Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ends spring break amid the coronavirus pandemic

"The message I think for spring breakers is the party is over in Florida," DeSantis told "Fox and Friends" on Thursday morning.

He went on, "You're not going to be able to congregate on any beach in the state. Many of the hot spots that people like to go to, whether it's Miami beach, Fort Lauderdale and Clearwater Beach are closed entirely for the time being."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the moratorium on bars on St. Patty's wasnt a coincidence..... but one I actually agree with. Youthful ignorance + alcohol... may as well squash it then....

So all the business owners that rely on spring break juicing their coffers dug that comment. DeSantis is your typical bonehead.

Greenboy,

Sorry, but you seem to not be able to understand that this is a Public Health Emergency. The "economy" is certainly important and all that but, , , , how much is your life worth? But, then again, I'll have to presume that you are still butt-hurt about Gillum losing?

dingbatch,

I didn't say it wasn't the right thing to do I said that DeSantis' delivery was that of a dumba$$. DeSantis chose to scapegoat spring breakers instead of acting like an adult and explaining that this is a tough decision as our beachside businesses are getting f-ed. There is a possibility he mentioned this in his statement I suppose but saying the party is over is akin to saying get lost to the revenue of my local friends.

I watched. Spot on analysis. If nothing else he says " ahhh" every forth word. Looked like he had a portable teleprompter.

Thanks jdb. Not sure Gillum would have done any better since he's got issues and all. DeSantis is about as good a racist as we can get.

Nikki Fried future first woman Governor of this glorious state!

So this is about surfing magic-seaweed has an opaque star for tomorrow morning.

This might be the understatement of the century. Btw, if you apply the "racist" label to everyone and everything you don't like eventually it becomes meaningless.

I'll be the 1st to admit, the guy has exceeded my expectations (granted I thought he was a major douche & my expectations were extremely low) but he's better than the prior criminal-in-charge we had as governor... by far

So now, how soon will DeSantis make the final, sensible, move to shut the whole state down?

Gotta agree 100% with that, especially after seeing gillums little situation down in Miami... I'm glad we have governor Desantis and think his press conferences have been good, very clear & informative. But, back to the beach thing it's just public ones and parking closed right? I.E. if I live beach side can still walk to beach??

get up early and go surf - it'll make that hangover go away and/or make the workday more tolerable :)

Can't speak for Brevard, but that's the case in St. Johns. People can still technically go to the beach, but they shut down all beach driving (last weekend it looked like a parking lot ) Entry gates are locked, but I'm not positive about parking lots (the pier, etc) but I believe so. Basically shutting down potential for large congregations.... It's a good idea.

Plenty of people out riding the two foot peelers this AM. Beach looked normal for a non spring break day.
