PRE : 1974 : Yes ,Tabeling , Claude and , Valluzzi were all really hot WAY before 1974 (As Freesurfs and Ding can attest to , I am sure, ) But GP ruled the day.

Haven't seen Jerry in 35 years. He used to be at Mark Realty all the time in his tan bug with aloha racks. He lent me his Skip Frye egg on a very small summer day and it was the very best board I rode back in that day. We were all riding G&S swallow tails and the like and they never, ever worked in Florida. Point them and go straight was all they were good for, but, that SF was magic, turning right and left on 1 ft mush. I just wish I had the money to buy one. (I was saving for college at the time.) I ran into a guy in the 80s that had bought Jerry's brother's (Dan) SF egg and it brought back the memories and this does too. Thanks Jerry for showing me what I should have been riding.

Saddle Bag Beach was the place to surf in its day . And way before RC 'S. was cool And very "Overrated " Sea Park , Mark Reality and Pet Den , where indeed the place to be (Howard , are you going to ring in here, or are you once again going to leave me hanging ? ) ( Very rare footage of Mike at the ranch with my all time HERO Rick Griffin ! Check out Griff : 5:36 - 5:53 The true Style Master ) ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mr0mH095jQ

I remember that session in Pacific Vibrations vividly, but, apparently not in keeping with the actual movie. My recollection includes a speeded up section where Griffin is going nuts painting the bus while everyone else is surfing. (He was painting over all the stuff he had done earlier.) He was a genius - lots of S.F concert posters and Surfer illustrations. As you say, a hero. Too bad he was another casualty of the 60s. I had forgotten Mike T. was in there. I read an article several years ago (probably in Surfer's Journal) in which Severson said he had lost track of all the prints of the movie. He said it lost a ton of money and went out of circulation quickly and he just let it go. Sad, it was one of my favorites. Sure wish I still had the poster that was in my bedroom and dorm room for years. Out of the dozens I had, I only have and handbill for Goin' Surfin' left. Sigh.

JOESTRUMMER - Shhhhh. Don't tell anybody, but there are still lots of Sat Beach breaks that fire on big north swells. Let them all keep going to Hightower and RCs.

Garcia, do you recall what size or color that egg was?

If I recall, it was clear. Jerry and Dan each had one.

Ooops, forgot it was a two part question - No, don't know the size, but, I would guess (based on a suspect memory) that it was maybe 6'-8 to 7'.

I'm sure it was clear and knowing how big Dan (bigger than Jerry, but, maybe a bit shorter), I couldn't imagine it being that small. Jerry was more slender, but, taller, so probably the same size board.
