Don't make it like this sand dump is going to spoil our great current line ups. The bars suck! Just as likely get some positive bottoms out of it . Anyone really think it could be worse ?
Me/Us--
As much as I 'hate' the lobby for and unnatural dynamic of this sand bs, Our bars have gotten better from these dumps every year for the past 5-6 yrs or so anyway. The worst thing for Our quality here is, long period and flatness for awhile.
The sandbars here, over the last 5-8 years are dogshit compared to what they historically were....these more frequent, yearly....whether the beach needs it or not...sand dumps have destroyed the entirety of Brevard county sandbars.
That isnt to say there isnt a good one here or there or that ones dont briefly develop with the new sand, but cumulatively this process has caught up with our beaches and left thumpy inside sand in shin deep water with a deep trough that goes out beyond where the sandbars used to be. When is the last time you saw a knee-waist day break and peel to the beach? Drive from Cocoa to south mel beach and, by and large, this is the case.
Greg had a good post about it a while back talking about the sand grain size and why this is happening. Don't let them fool you on the "oh it comes from offshore so its natural". They are sucking mud off the bottom out there and dumping it on the beach....
