The audio on mine was chopped up like a communication from a distant planet during a solar storm.

I watched both the Men's and Women's Bronze heats last night. 2am.

Waves were 6 foot choppy and super disorganized.

Medina vs Owen Wright. Very close heat with each battling wave vs wave. Owen Wright squeaked out the win for the bronze medal. Both did some pretty crazy aerials in crappy waves.

Japan surfer (i will have to look up the name, isuzuki?!?) vs Caroline Marks. Waves were really doo-doo for their heat. 6 foot close outs. no bottom. Carolina Marks didn't catch a wave for the first 20 minutes of the heat while the Japanese surfer caught 3 including the heat winner a 5+ score. Marks seemed shook up by no waves early and scrambled and searched for a scoring wave but failed with 3 or 4 waves with low scores.

Caroline Marks finishes fourth in Olympic surfing final moved up because of typhoon

Fourth place in the Olympic Games offers little consolation. All the work, all the training, all the sacrifices ... and nothing shiny to wear around your neck on a long flight home.

I guess its cool the first olympics with surfing was held in the ocean, but the next host country needs to build a Kelly pool.

Can Slater make the next olympics? It needed him. John John, bleh. He didn't look fully recovered from injury and I suspect it was a little selfish to take the slot. I could be wrong though and am biased towards Kelly.

Basically John John is admitting here he wasn't ready for the olympics:

"I've decided to withdraw from the next two WSL events in Mexico and Tahiti. This was a really hard decision to make, but I'm not 100% healed from my knee surgery and I'm trying to do the right thing for my future health and goals. The opportunity to surf in Tokyo was once in a lifetime, and a risk I was willing to take. But looking at the rest of the year and talking with my medical team the best step forward is continuing with physical therapy for the next 60 days. I want to make sure there is nothing that keeps me from competing, and surfing the way I want to in the long term. With all that said, I'll be ready to go for the Pipe Masters and excited to compete! "

Well, lost all respect for John John. If he was injured enough to withdraw from these events, he should have withdrawn from the Olympics and given up the spot to someone healthy. Oh, have you looked at the 2022 WSL format? Hate it.

At least they dropped the stupid wave pool event. Boring

So at what point do we say Slater was robbed of his divine right to surf in the first ever Olympics?

Motivation for revenge and take the world title next year? And is it possible for a 50 year old to make the next Olympics?
