Surfing there late afternoon and saw a distressed young whale and groms I was surfing with paddled up to it and swore it was a young Orca with a few mature Orcas with it.
Someone was flying a drone over them, anyone get footage? I did report to local whale rescue folks ------------------------- Brevard Surf Report |

Heck Yeah I saw it, I was out alone just N of you and I swear I saw an Orca breach the surface, I only saw one but It was bigger than a dolphin and smaller than a Right whale...I mumbled "Orca?" but could not believe it...good on you for reporting it...It freaked me out as all I saw was "killer whale on the outside"...I caught one more and came in...Friends on the beach saw it but said it was a dolphin but I thought it was way bigger...good to hear someone else saw it, bummed it was in distress with offspring.

About 20 years ago a surfing buddy had an orca swim next to his board and let us know about it, at first we didn't really believe it was an orca then saw the fin standing proud in the water.
Apparently, it isn't common but they do travel along the Space Coast. I've never seen one in the water since. ------------------------- If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph: THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD WAS MUSIC - KV |

Surfermic, I think you were south of us. Saw a solo surfer down that way. Anyway, good to hear someone else saw the same thing. Did a beach run this am and did not see anything beached.
If anyone knows who shot that drone footage, would love to see. We are so blessed to live in such an amazing surf/marine community, hopefully we can turn the tide and keep our waters clean and preserve our precious ecosystem ! ------------------------- Brevard Surf Report |

^ I was N of you between Paravirus Beach and DBLT, original 2 of out then I was alone. When it breached the belly was soo white and the huge pectoral fin I looked like a SeaWorld image. You paddle up to it? That seems crazy, those fish have some teeth. Good to hear they did not become standed on the beach, makes free diving the new reefs a bit more sketchy after seeing another large fish on the outside, weeks ago on a yak mission out there I saw a huge Bull shark...lots of large creatures roaming just outside the breaks most do not even notice them until you Yak out into the 15-30 foot zone.

Somewhere between OA and the Inlet, around 12:30ish a Dolphin sized juvenile Orca breached a good 3' out right exactly where my gaze panned a that moment, like something intuitive had me look'n on that slice o'the sea. I recognized it immediately what it was being familiar with them from out west beaucoup yrs with a personal encounter once down in Baja late 70's. The water around what happened here showed only a little disturbance for moments afterward and that was it. What time did you guys see them up above us here ystrdy? (I didn't read everybody's posts above~)

I guess it makes sense that they would be following the right whale migration. How cool and a bit scary!

Like Bamboo said. Probably 20 years ago flat calm day me and a buddy see a huge fin near O ave. We take the canoe out to try and catch it thinking it maybe was a hammerhead but the fin was black and bigger than a hammer heads. We just saw the fin and never breached or hit our bait but thinking back maybe it was an orca because it was a huge black fin. I cant think of anything else it could have been but we thought maybe it was some kind of whale.

Long time ago I pulled up on a camera pad just north CX-41 on the Cape to check the surf and saw an orca that appeared to be beached. As I wondered what I should do or who to call, I watched it flail around on beach. Over the course of about 10 mins. it became clear it wasn't beached. It was just scratching itself in the shell pile that was there. At just that moment I reached under my waist ban scratch my sea lice rash, and it all made perfect sense

I am glad there have been other sightings of Orca's, I was out in hurricane surf off of Indialantic boardwalk one afternoon back in the early 60's and saw a pod moving north, they were about two hundreds yards further out.
