Hey guys- quick question to anyone with knowledge of outer banks surf/camping.
I am looking at a possible 3 nighter or so, and wanted to hear some feed back on where you would head to, and what camping areas may be accessible near those spots? also what's the best drive route from FL?
Thanks for any help you can give- flying blind at this point!!

Cape Woods in Buxton, Frisco Woods in Frisco or NPS Frisco but cold showers there. Fastest is 95 - 64 - 12. Have fun. Take rubber.

Take mosquito coils & repellent, and watch the speed limit on Hwy 64!

Definitely the rubbers, chicks in that area are notoriously slutty. But gonna be some coold @$$ camping this time of year. ------------------------- "If I say it's safe to surf this beach, captain, then it's safe to surf this beach!" More like firewood and bourbon for this time of year!! ------------------------- "Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do." - Bertrand Russell "Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. Try to find something in KDH close enough to get to Duck to the north. The corps of engineers have a pier there. It's close to pea island to the south and Rodanthe.

NC is a speed-enforcing state.
Water temperatures are sometimes a lot warmer at Hatteras/Frisco than farther north. Duck Pier has the longest data record.

In the 80s I hada friend that worked at the pier. On a giant day, he said we could jump off, if we dared. We declined after seeing how far up we were. We tried paddling out under it. We got a third of the way out when a set came through, under the pier, slapping the bottom as it came at us. we were unable to paddle out and luckily it just spun us around a couple times and spat us out the side.

I camped in Frisco ages ago and loved it. We got lucky with south swells so it was really fun but it's a short-trip to the lighthouse and east facing beaches if you need to. It can take a bit longer but going the ferry route (if they still run) is a cool experience if you've never done that before.
When are you thinking of going? I've also rented a house there in the off-season (winter) and it was ridiculously cheap. Massive house and it was something like ~$400 for a whole week. |

coolchange - didja go? We need story and pics! Ferries are still running BTW, way slow but a nice ride. Ocracoke is kinda cool, touristy. Worth messing around. We usually camp at Teeter's there on the way home and get the first ferry out in the morning.

Take some advice from your old Uncle Slimy. Make your camp on the east side of the trees in the Summer Spring and Fall. It gets hotter than ten thousand hells at times.
