Howard : I do not remember that , but I have seen old photos of a very different pier configuration , where there were side by side ( North and South ) extensions in the middle about 3/4 of the way down to the end . So it looked like a cross at one time ??? Is that what you are referring to ?

Sounds like you're talking about the torn down pier that use to be located north of Port Canaveral at an area formally called Stinkmore (?) at Cape Canaveral Airforce Station.
Check out the attached photo

RE ::" Sounds like you're talking about the torn down pier that use to be located north of Port Canaveral at an area formally called Stinkmore . " Actually I was referring to Dingpatchs driving on the old current Canaveral pier ( AKA Westpoint Pier ) inquiry . No ,the photo you posted is indeed of the torn down very , very old Cape fishing pier ( Circa 1920's ? ) which was once actually located on or around Apollo Beach , currently KSC . And when I say Fishing Pier , it was an actual offshore commercial fishing and OFFLOADING spot AKA Port Canaveral only on a MUCH smaller scale . ( By the way . I have never seen that particular image , and is INSANELY COOL ! ) *** AND IF YOU LOOK AT YOUR PHOTO ID IT DOES INDEED SAY KSC PIER and a date of 1942, about a good 10 Years before the Feds came down with their eminent domain mentality . --- Also check out the no less then four commercial fishing boats sitting offshore waiting their turn to unload , very , very cool historical photo indeed ! (Looks like they have electricity hooked up , but can you imagine no AC an the Skeet's in 1942 ? )

Do not remember parking on the Pier, but do remember fishing as a kid from the wings Joe mentioned. Also remember the days of parking on the beach. My parents were big 4th St South fans. Cool photo Coquina, was that on the Volusia side of what is now Canaveral Nat'l Seashore?

Never mind, I see Joe says it was at Apollo Beach.

Joe, way-back-when, , , , the "cross" you are talking about was pretty much where the restaurants are now. The "parking" was on the north side over the beach.

Or on the overlook on PAFB north of the O-club, and the "road" from Spanish House to the Crow's Nest at the Inlet.

By the way , what a great name for a town ! With a commercial fishing pier and Canning factory , and all the Fish guts rotting in the hot Florida Sun, what else would you call it other then Stinkmore ? I guess that would actually make the local citizens " Stinkmorians " ?

Found a site that has a history of the CCAFS & PAFB (Banana River Air Station) area..
Stinkmore & Pier was near what used to be near LC17 - south of the cape.. Map on page 18 - kinds shws it north.. Pic of pier says Artesia possible a bit south of there.. Nearer to the current sub basin/port.. They have an arial pic taken from the sea side on page 23 as well as an area map that even shows approx house locations.. Have seen some bombaras way off there during mondo south swells many many moons ago - back in surfsailing days.. Also other old pics on page 44 of PAFB taken from the ocean side.. Is that a beach club/house at the end of the main enterance right ON the water, as well as many (20+) other small ones (changing houses?) immediately to the north towards 'no club'? Also another ariel pic on page 38.. Couldn't make out the old pier at 'Hangars'/'Pier-less'.. When was that built? Didn't seem to last too long - never seen it in person - was gone by the time I got here in '80.. Help someone - not sure how to get the link below to work but really a cool read.. https://www.nar.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/How-did-the-Cape-get-started_Hilliard.pdf

Yes, buildings/houses. The line of houses to the north/right of the entrance were Navy housing as I'm told. Not sure but pretty sure that today the one building at the north end of the old O'club is in that photo(?).
And I am going to "take a stab" at the southern building with the dark roof is, , , , , , , , , AP Shack as I remember it!! History ------------------------- Dora Hates You Edited: 02/14/2022 at 02:37 PM by dingpatch |

If you need to waste some serious time, here is the FL repository of aerials. Brevard goes back to '43. Probably some guy in a WW1 surplus biplane with his brother in the back, firing away with a Brownie Box, twelve pics to the roll. https://ufdc.ufl.edu/collections/aerials
Edit: was curious so went looking for the pier, southwest corner CYS-1-C10?
