You should have driven up to Matapalo, then over the mountain to Carate. Is what I'da suggested 20 years ago. Probably get run off by property owning gringos wanting it all to themselves.

Johnnyboy-We flew into San Jose then got a place in Hermosa hoping for an evening session. It was blown out. We had dinner in Jaco then got up at 5am and started driving. I flew into Golfito my very first time. Srfgrt- If your a good surfer a fish would be great, me not so much. I was regulating on a 7'2" fun shape. I weight 215lbs. Hopefully in the afternoon you will be relaxing waiting for the end of the day session. Aint much to do there. I drink beer. We took the road to the end at Punta Banco and went up the hill. We went maybe a mile after the top of the hill. I heard if you keep going you will find indigenous people. We did see some "real locals". I saw a guy dropping in on bombs on what look like a 5'8 pizza tray. Keep an eye on the wave. It changes quickly.
