In a Facebook post, staff said the 8-foot-long crocodile was seen in front of the Barrier Island Center in Melbourne Beach. According to the post, American crocodiles typically live in coastal areas throughout the Caribbean, so it was unusual to see one as north as Brevard County. Alligators and crocodiles are both part of the group of reptiles called crocodilians. Florida is the only place where the two species of crocodilians native to the United States, the American alligator and American crocodile, naturally co-exist, according to the National Park Service. Croc attacks are way worse than shark attacks. I've seen a knarly attack in Costa Rica a few years ago.

no crocodilians so far. Reptilians in general give me the creeps. Croc attacks are way worse than shark attacks. I've seen a knarly attack in Costa Rica a few years ago. There's video of one croc attack (starts at 1:49) on a surfer in the Tamarindo rivermouth here, along with a good interview with the victim (who lost his foot). I've seen them in the keys for years. They are very shy for the most part. I am surprised to hear of one so far north. They like hot weather and warm water.

When we went on the kids tour to cape for the kids field trip, the guide pointed out some huge gators as the "unpaid security."

I've been there a few times, but we always choses the 30-60 minute drive around the river. |

Eh, OK. I was gonna go look. Gators everywhere, crocs are a rarity. Couple from the other day.

8 foot croc trapped near Whiteys, tracking collar installed and released into the IRLagoon! Trump would have sent him to Mexico. Maybe he'll hook up with that bull shark they relocated from a pond in IHB to the IRL. |
