What is the cause of the "fecal" pollution? The news article sites runoff, but why only in Cocoa Beach? They don't mention cruise ships.

Beach Water Quality. Cocoa Beach Pier was bad on April 19. Rest of county, good.

Wake up and smell the Coffee , the Pier has ALL WAYS had the worst water quality in Brevard . You are surfing in a virtual " Cesspool " of Crap ---- and its not the older people in " Athletic Shorts, " rather it is all the very little kids , ages 2 to 5 , who are naturally going to defecate at will , whether on land or in the Ocean . It is a no brainier , stay away from the E-COLIE Pier !

Couple of things: enterococcus, what they're testing for, exists in the gut/feces of warm blooded critters in general, not just humans. Temporal resolution of sampling is not so good, about every two weeks. Rained 2" on the 16th with the spikes showing up starting 17th up and down the county. More populated, more likely it seem. Paradise for example. Got your hep shots? Kidding! Sort of.

It's too bad they don't test the inland mud puddles.. who knows what StirDerpMcDirt is boogie boarding in with all those cows and outhouses.

I know he's got his fingers crossed for cruiseship pollution to make himself feel better- but it's hard when you're hangin' ten in bull manure.

Kowabungaaaaaa!

How many millions of pounds of holiday crap are dumped into our small part of the Atlantic every day?

Hell, I guess we need something to feed our new summertime algae. We can't let the west coast outdo us with their never ending Red Tide.

Remember that many of homes south of Indialantic are on septic tanks, and the limestone/coquina rock/sand does not block all of it.

Sooooooo are you saying some other warm blooded critters besides humans are the source? Because then you talk about population. Unless you are referring to the raccoon population.

It's a mixed bag so to speak. There are lots more humans but most are potty trained. However, many are not so good at picking up. There are DNA studies looking at the differences in input (or output so to speak, heh heh) between natural critters, pets, humans. The rocks at the Port are bathed in Pelican dookie. Why no high count there? That should be a daily problem.

I remember being in Costa Rica and seeing these horse-riding along the beach excursions going all day.

The horses kept dropping 8 pound dookies right on the beach into the wet sand & water, right next to people swimming... all day long.

I thought that was pretty gross.

Cole, sliding scale to accommodate natural background. Beaches 70 coliform/100ml before "poor" water quality, pools should have no more than 4, tap water should have zero. You get the idea.

If you look at the data, there was a spike at Jetty Park. Damn pelicans
