I remember back in the 80s at ESA contests if you surfed for Spectrum Surfboards you weren't going to get an accurate score. It was ran and organized by Natural Art. Long time ago, but the concept still applies.

Sharkfood : I watched that final live and totally 100 % agree , Italo should have won for sure . He got the longest deepest barrel of the contest and nailed all his turns and airs . If you look at the next right that Griffin caught it was only half of the size of Italos wave ( Where was the same size consistency in the man made wave pool? ). Maybe the judges were sending a message for being to cocky with his body language ? Yeah , blatant rip off !

I remember when Pete Dooley ran contests and I remember those who felt very wronged by his scoring. They still bitch about to this day. Dooley, it may be recalled, preferred a clean cut well mannered young man. My buddy was not that but damn he ripped.

Personally I don't think he was robbed at all. His right may have been slightly underscored, but Griff did just as good on turns, and a much better finish on his right. Italo had every chance to win with his 2nd left, but fell off. I'm over the Brazilians claiming every air reverse and crying when they don't win every heat. They've been helped plenty with scores over the last few years. If anything, the WSL has catered to them due to the growing Brazil market. I'd rather watch Ethan Ewing absolutely demolish a wave with his style and power, than watch surfers pump down the line, passing by multiple hittable sections, to throw yet another air reverse. Rant over.

I agree with you about Ethan.
As far as side by side comparisonthe final went, I just felt italo looked sharper. Watch season 2 of make or break on Apple TV if you haven't already. Pretty sure Italo is not on the good side of the Judges these day. |

It's very interesting to see his rant invoke the sponsors and public. He's talking about his sponsors and his public, the Brazilians. Everyone who loses bitches about it but the Brazilians honestly feel like they are the future and anyone who disagrees is the past. I do not subscribe to this.

Long time ago, but the concept still applies. Same thing on a Quiet Flight. I lost a heat in the NKF by the narrowest of margins. Four judges gave me 6.5 to 7 for a decent ride, Rich Price gave me a 4. I actually thought about covering the logos when I saw the judges. ------------------------- I was right. |
