I wrote the following in the Speed Limit thread that evolved to this topic -
Beach communities are being forced into it due to mounting costs. Brevard County commission is nailing us with increased lifeguard costs (increased coverage and increased cost sharing) and vandalism. The BC Commission is reducing their cost share while doing "renourishment" which increases the runouts and they keep bringing people (blame the EDC and TDC) who don't know how to swim in the ocean. In Mel Bch, a few years ago, we paid $20,000 for lifeguards. We will now be paying closer to $80,000. A few years ago (not sure what we pay now) we paid over $35,000/yr for Ocean Park maintenance and janitorial. Most of the residents seldom, if ever, use Ocean Park and none of them vandalize it. You would not believe what these assholes do to our park every damned weekend - break the shower heads off, smear baby shit on the bathroom walls, stuff diapers in the toilets, clog the toilets and leave them running, etc. Our janitorial and repair costs went through the roof. They also took over the end of the street parking and puked and pissed and threw their trash all over that, too. I am a Surfrider member and agree that the beaches ought to be open, but nobody should have to put up with that, and we sure shouldn't have to subsidize it. As usual, a few really big, BIG assholes ruin it for everyone. I don't blame ANY municipality for charging. And, one final note (not in the previous thread) - Since we have started charging, the vandalism has decreased substantially. |

It's $20 in Cocoa Beach for residents. $75 for non residents.
I've been in Brevard for decades and I'm still not sure where one town starts and another ends. Can someone please fill in the name of each town? Lum's is in - Hightower is in - RC's is in - Pet Den is in - Pelican is in - Millennium is in - Lastly, has every town adopted this pay to park strategy? ------------------------- I was right. |

Lum's - Brevard County
HIghtower - Sat Bch, but per the website, parking is free with a pass for all BC residents RC - Sat Bch Pet Den - Sat Bch Pelican - Sat Bch Millenium - IHB Can't answer about the pay to park Obviously you have been around a while if you still call it Lum's. Between the town, PAFB, and new "locals" they have renamed just about every break. |

Got lucky with a warning note the other day at Pelican. Did not see the signs there until I got back to the car and saw the note on the window. But I was there super early before it was really light out and pay for parking wasn't even remotely on my mind, that would have been a nasty surprise. Agreed on the comments above, sad to see it come here to Brevard, but looks like it's necessary. Or bathroom monitors. Good grief.

Posted this a few days ago on the speed limit thread: Satellite residents can get registered and get a free pass for all parks, as I understand it. Brevard County residents get a free pass for Hightower and Pelican. Just happened to get mine today. You bring your registration to the office across from Luis/Perkins and you can add your other vehicles yourself later.

Cole--comparing beachside to Mims? Yes, it is all the same these days. We are no different than Okeechobee or Sebring. The soul has been gone from Brevard for quite awhile now. ------------------------- I was right. |

I liked the photo shopped pic of the space shuttle with a boot on the City of Satellite Beach sign.

Here is the link to what to do if your car is booted -
https://www.parksatellitebeach.org/my-car-was-booted It says you have a phone capable of receiving email and it doesn't say what to do if you have been booted erroneously. I am carrying the email confirmation in my car, but this seems like a totally messed up way of doing this system. Mel Bch, CCB, and Indialantic have been doing this for some time. I wonder why Sat Bch did not talk to them before implementing this f'd up system. I am not confident at all that the database will be 100% correct resulting in cars being booted that should not be. Stickers would have been so easy. I guess too easy for Sat Bch. |

I just talked to SB Public Works and they said two things -
-if you get booted erroneously, it is likely because the person who registered the car made a typo in the license plate entry when applying for the free pass; the data is not being transposed into another database, your entry is going directly into the master list, so there is no possibility of a transposition or data entry error on their part; - if you are booted, you call 321-307-3067 which is manned 24/7. They will text you a code to release the boot after you pay them. You can also call them 24/7 with questions. |

My friend was booted with his 3 year old in tow. They sat for a couple of hours before the guy showed.
A typo with a few letters and numbers? I don't know about that. I've been ticketed in Cocoa Beach with the sticker clearly visible where they said to put it. ------------------------- I was right. Edited: 10/12/2023 at 06:02 AM by Cole |

The SB City Manager Courtney's husband got booted because of a clerical error/transposed tag numbers. They said it was sorted quickly with a phone call.
Just be aware that Public Works folks who tend to the parks have nothing to do with this, so don't come at them. Can't yell at the bin man for what happened in the board room. ------------------------- Nothing screams cuck like flying a flag with another man's name on it. |

It is a good thing that Courtney had it hit her personally rather than just hearing stories which can be dismissed or minimized. She will likely make any required process adjustments more immediate.

Wouldn't warning be a better idea until they sort out the minutiae?

Uhhhm mostly good news, but a little zinger on the last line:
Good news, bad news Sigh, when will it end. Hopefully the money is spent on beach access maintenance and residents get a freebie. With all the required parking pass stickers now to park up and down the coast searching for that secret spot I won't be able to see out the back window. Let's hope beach passes aren't next, seasonal passes will be a tattoo... |

Lums is in unincorporated Brevard County, locally referred to as South Patrick Shores. Hightower, RC's, Pet Den and Pelican are all in the City of Satellite Beach city limits. Millenium is in City of Indian Harbour Beach city limits.
