I quit going in 05. I had a lot of Tico friends, one of whom was making me a technical school in Santa Terresa. Then God said no mas. When I returned the last time, she gave me my company and a grandson, who was born on the wife's birthday.

Bro you are tripping. You have an exponentially higher chance of being injured by your surfboard before ever being shot at. As long as you don't try to sell drugs, or take too many and get all whacked out, you're not going to have an issue.
You should go back, it has been gringofied intensely since 2005. And quite honestly Costa Rica is probably the safest country in all of Central America to go for a non Spanish speaking white person.

I have several friends who live there, and all say there are spots to avoid, but the US is a far more dangerous place when it come to pretty much everything.

I've been hurt many times by my surf board. Clunked on the head hundres of times. Stabbed by my fin on two separate occasions. Once in each foot. First time, doc sewed up sand and sea monkeys in the wound, gave me gangrene and left me in a room to rot until I came to my senses and hobbled out. Had to have a muscle and artery taken out. Laid up for 3 months. Second time by someone else's board.
I been cracked on the head on numerous occasion and augured into the bottom at every session.

As far as being skeert down there, I hitchhiked around two months in '01.

In conclusion, being 6" 5" and 220 lbs, I ain't askeert down there.

San Jose is the place to avoid. US is more armed than there. I live on OklaHOMEBOY avenue. It's the critters that scare me there. Ticos and I get along great.

My only Hermosa trip 30 years ago looked like your photos. Just a couple small hotels on that side of the point, everything was still in Jaco. Surf in front of the Almendro. Been back to CR many times since but always elsewhere. The video shows a lot of changes, but as stated that is the case throughout the country

My last time there was 05. I had a tech school almost built, and a rich Kraut gave us a house.

That ship has sailed. The ranchos and sodas have been replaced with boutiques and yogo studios.

In 05, I stayed in a clean little place at Pavones for $20 a night.

I'm guessing that ship has left port too.

A month after getting home the last time, I started my own business. It all fell in my lap. I had just been messing with a business card and the guy I was working for fired me. God sayeth unto me, "Grab all his clients and you'll be in business." Three week later I was Brujo Mechanical LLC. The God sayeth again unto me, You're never going back.
So it is written.

I have been to Santa Teresa for 15 years every year. It's a bit like Elvis on the last tour these days.

Santa Teresa been overhyped in forever. All the waves in that video look like one turn close outs and a guy getting dropped in on. Last time I went there was the last time I promise you that!
