    The idea is that the consistent waves of wave pools allow systematic testing in ways not possible in the wild.

I dunno, man. The wheel is already invented.
Tested on machine perfect waves, paradise point breaks.
Greenough sussed out his innovations on perfect point breaks, Santa Barbara has a ton of them.
Then he moved to Lennox heads to dive and fish. And shredded on a spaceship spoon knee board.
Met Nat Young and Bob McTavish. Which resulted in '66 World Championship.
Who else truly changed fins......hmmmm
Scads of perfect surf, direct connections to Santa Barbara innovators:
the Campbell "bonzer" brothers.
bonzer boys did cheat and study venturi effects.......science!

    Greenough is a very tough act to follow.
    The wave pool story reminded me of this water tunnel facility, the wet version of an air tunnel. Wikipedia
