I was used to hoods in Oregon (essential) and started re-liking them as a way to keep the ears warm--for me, cold ears develop balance problems. Sure, good earplugs do the same.

Also leads to the joyful experience of having the inside of your ear....drilled out.
You will confess anything they ask. On my 2nd one, they cut my ear off, held on by a flap of skin, to get in there with dremels and tiny chisels. yeee-haaa!

I've had luck with clearance sales. During the Nike era, Hurley offered a super-premium wetsut made in Japan and priced around $700. Evidently didn't sell well.... so I picked one up on clearance, only to discover that the sizing was distinctly tighter than ordinary Hurleys. I've shrunk, and it's now a star. Slick inside.

Also have no fuzz Matuse (invariably deep discount) and two Ferals, bought when shoulder rotator cuff problems made chest zips hard to use and their back zips looked serious. They are. Feral's website has their version of why fuzz is bad (they claim it makes for water retention, thus heavy).
