Just heard a NPR piece on Project 2025 cuts to NOAA and what that would mean to private entities like Windy who rely on NOAA data. Here is John Morales on that subject, short. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bwmmPlw06_0

It's not a crisis. It's intentional destruction of NOAA, with collateral damage (and likely privatization) of the National Weather Service. Pretty soon, weather info will be from private sources. There's been pressure from the weather industry for a long time, at least as far back as Reagan.
The Department of Commerce has long been the Department of Data, collecting crucial economic and social data, including the Census. It has long been reliable, with extensive networks of data sources. The Federal Reserve depends on a lot of such data for its efforts to constrain inflation while promoting nearly-full employment. Thanks for the links. Note that NPR has had to downsize. ------------------------- wavewatcher - >ww - >wavewatcher, again |
