All of 'em, including all the other bands he played with!
Never met a Clapton song I didn't enjoy.

Tears in heaven - written after the loss of his 4 year old son Conor from falling from a 53rd story window onto 4 story roof. I like the rest of his music but this song  always comes to mind first- so tragic.

i agree, Clapton solo always pretty much bored me too. Cream, thats what i think about when i think Clapton. man they were great. (btw "Crossroads" was originally written by Robert Johnson. Cream recorded it as a b-side cut on "Wheels of Fire")

"Motherless Children" off 461 Ocean Blvd., a great record album recorded in Miami.

BTW, that stuff off Bluesbreakers was a big part of the beginnings of wailing rock guitar and the Les Paul through the Marshall thing. Not many people realize that about Clapton...he helped start the "religion" of guitar. Of course he will point back to blues players like Buddy Guy and Freddie King (author of "Hideway").

"Further On Up The Road," followed by "Tears In Heaven." Then, of course, there's "Layla," "Cocaine," "I Can't Stand It," and "I've Got A Rock & Roll Heart."

Of course, the mix must include "Wonderful Tonight" (but only the version that appeared on JUST ONE NIGHT Disc 1), and, when the funk sets in the weekend after your woman left you, there's always "Rambling On My Mind."

But, then, me, I think Clapton's a god.

"Forever Man" is my fave.....however I gotta mention "Wondeful Tonite" as
it was our "wedding song". (That would be my wedding with my wife...not Eric..)

Interesting that several of the "Clapton" songs that are mentioned were written by (and in some cases are definitive song by) others:

I Shot the Sheriff - Bob Marley
Crossroads - Robert Johnson
Cocaine - JJ Cale

I am a very big Clapton fan and certainly his early work in Bluesbreakers, Cream & Blind Faith was in many ways superior to his later solo efforts. Hard to go wrong playing with the likes of John Mayall, Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and Steve Winwood. Whom also wrote most of the hits with those groups. Even the Derek & the Dominos - Layla & Assorted Love Songs, was fueled by the influence of Duane Alman.

All that said ......

Layla off D&tD's .... (however I have come to really like the acoustic version off "Unplugged") "Bellbottom Blues" is also a very strong cut off that album. Interesting that both are about Pattie Boyd / Harrison / Clapton. As well as the later song, "Wonderful Tonight" He also does a smoke'n version of Jimi's "Little Wing" the likes of which was not touched until SRV.

461 Ocean View Blvd is by far his best (if under rated by the gen public) solo effort. With "Motherless Children" and "Let it Grow" being outstanding efforts.

All of the above.

I used to know one of the guys who wrote one of the songs on 461.

I met Eric and shared pepsi and cigs with him and we talked alone for an hour out on a porch, and I did not know who he was!  (the Allmans and the rest of the"gang" were inside)  He only said his name was Eric.  He introduced me as his friend to a girl named Bonnie (Bramlett).  Once we left the house my friends asked me "what's he like?" (they were inside grooving on the their "groupeeness").  I was kind of taken back and pretty unsure about what they were asking!? "What's who like"?  "HOWARD!  That was Eric Clapton"!

WG .... nice clip! Eric is pretty much killing it. Note that GE Smith ( Music Dir / frontman of THE SNL Band and lately seen playing in Moonalice) is also in the band that night.

TBird - The green Strat that Winwood still plays is the one that Clapton gave him from that group of Strats that he bought that gave birth to "Blackie"

Backup band looks like Booker T. and the MGs.

I didn't know that about Winwood.
