https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=97007&page=1 The hope is that tons of the powder might someday be used to steal strength from an ongoing hurricane. "Mother Nature is fooled in so many different ways every day," says Cordani, referring to other ways humans alter the planet, such as global warming and deforestation. "This is just a more obvious way. We just want to take a punch out of a storm so it doesn't level your house." The state of North Dakota and the Canadian province of Alberta have repeatedly use cloud seeding to make hail storms less destructive. By releasing silver iodide into carefully studied clouds, meteorologists have caused ice droplets to form more quickly - and in smaller pea-sized pebbles. Weak evidence has suggested that cloud seeding projects in Florida and Texas - as well as Moscow - have worked to squeeze water out of lingering clouds, triggering more rain. And researchers at the University of Utah say they have used similar methods to successfully clear fog around municipal and military airports. Still, until weather forecasters get it right every time, there's no guarantee that weather-changing efforts are really working or if it's simply a quirk in the complex workings of Mother Nature. Some argue that means tinkering with powerful weather events like hurricanes remains a risky endeavor. "If you do nothing and there's a horrible weather event, it's an act of God," says Hoffman. "But if you do something and even make matters a little better, someone may still bear a loss and they're sure to blame you."

Do you know how many tons of water and joules of energy are in a mature tropical cyclone?

If you are suggesting the "they" weakened Florence. Perhaps you can look at the last 36hrs of satellite based water vapor imagery and dropsonde data that show a huge layer of really low humidity air between 20k and 30k feet that got entrained into the system from the south. Then tell us how that should affect a storm. Levi Cowen at "tropical tidbits" has a good summary on his site.

Oh yeah, the Dyn-O-Mat scam. They claimed to dissipate a burgeoning t-shower in the late morning. I am right now watching shower after shower on the MLB WSR88D loop appear and then disappear just as fast as it appeared over Volusia and Brevard and adjacent coastal waters. Here I thought it was dry air above the 500mb level but it is really that Damned Dyn-O-Mat up there stopping it from raining on my parched yard in Rockledge.

"they" are always far enough away to wonder about.

Why are people always looking for a miracle shortcut? If those existing we would have flying cars. We would have stairs into space. We would have anti-gravity machines. We would have infinite energy. The information is out there on how the universe works and it's proven and tested. Accept it or keep being disappointed.

Learn the science, then see what you can't (mostly) do. Scombrid knows.

Come on man, science is nothing but doom and gloom after ED pills.
