That was interesting. I worked with a retired blackbird pilot a while back. He didn't like to talk about it but he turned me on to their association's website. Its got some goose bump inducing reading for anyone that's interested. Bill Weaver's bio is one example with a story of surviving an inverted flat spin ejection at Mach 2. Several stories of outrunning Soviet SAMs that are real nail biters in the war stories section too. http://roadrunnersinternationale.com/

Perhaps someone on here knows more but, , , , I was "away" with the Army at the time(?), , , there was a local incident with a Blackbird. Not sure if the Blackbird itself had a problem or, it missed a refueling tanker, etc., , , ,. In any case it came into Patrick. As I understand it, A1A was closed for the landing and Pineda had APs and sheriffs making sure that nobody stopped and gawked. AFTAC took command of the base. The next day a tanker came in with the correct fuel and the SR-71 soon left.

Any other info or recollections?

There was a big crowd there to watch it take off. As I remember it bugged out really loud and fast.
