Sources: Florida has targeted Louisiana's Billy Napier as the school's next coach. An announcement could come as early as this afternoon.

STATE OF FOOTBALL: In Billy Napier, it looks like the Gators got their man (again)

Bowl selection is Sunday at Noon. Found this on a news site. Hope it happens. Dec 23rd in Tampa:
Gasparilla Bowl Bowls love regional matchups, and one of the best this year could be in Tampa. The Gasparilla Bowl is likely to get a dream matchup of Florida vs. UCF. That's the best thing to happen in this bowl's brief history since they stopped calling it the magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl. |

Link says Dillon Gabriel has entered the transfer portal. Not a good omen for UCF/Malzahn.
I'd go watch UF/UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl if DG plays and both teams really want to compete, but I get the impression both of them are kinda "over it" at this point. |

"I like the State Team rankings he has on this article" Gee, that's a shock. UCF is rated 1st, of course you, the ultimate homer, like it.

I didn't write that article but agree with it. I've watched every one of Gators and UCF game this year and I would say UCF has the ever slight edge. Having a stable coach helps the Knights. Gators already have players dropping out and won't participate in bowl game or in transfer portal (trouble in paradise ). I'm sure UCF will have a few also.
Dillon Gabriel wasn't going to play for UCF again after the injury and that has been well known. Freshman Qb Mikey Keene is serviceable enough to win a bowl game but the next UCF starting Qb isn't currently on the roster. Hopefully the Qb recruit from Georgia coming in is good and can take over. Or, possibly a transfer qb. UCF going into the Big 12 and we will need a good freshman next year for experience into that league. Hope the gators and knights get lined up and play in Tampa. Just speculation at this point. UCF has a good enough record to look good on a schedule at 8-4. 3rd place in conference. An award would be beating the gators in a bowl game. But, again...who knows nowadays what is in players and coaches heads. It has been an interesting year. |

I hope they play too. In state rivalries are always fun. I have two daughters who graduated from UCF, one who buys season tickets. So, let the fun begin!
Bowl games suck with all the coaches and players leaving or sitting it out. I have a hard time even watching anymore and they used to be such a big thing. Reference all of my other rants about that for the details. Sadly, they no longer are. |

Dillon Gabriel wasn't going to play for UCF again after the injury and that has been well known. I was not following it that closely. What were the signs and reasons? |

Rumors on a UCF sports chat. Just rumors were coming out 3 weeks before announcement. I ignored them, then it came true.
Dillon Gabriel is a great Qb but if he doesn't want to be at UCF then Buh Bye. I think Malzhan likes the dual threat Qb as evident of the Recruit coming in next year. Think RPO. Gabriel could run, but is more of a pocket passer and a really good one at that. I hope he is succesful whereever he ends up. He was a heisman hopeful at one point. |

I had not read up on Billy Napier's offense, so, I went online -
"Quarterback Levi Lewis continued to thrive in Napier's system, throwing for 2,274 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2020. Entering his final season, Lewis ranks second in career passing touchdowns (54), third in career passing yards (6,286) and fourth in career completions (485)." Sounds like he wants to throw the ball which leaves dual threat QBs Jones and Richardson in limbo. So, how about lending us Gabriel!? |

I watched Napier's Ragin Cajuns and, from what I saw, his is a pure drop back passer. I don't think we have one on the bench (as we did when Spurrier came in and picked out Shane Matthews). It will be interesting to see if he can pick one up. So, Gabriel is looking better and better for us, although he is supposed to be taking a trip to Ol Miss and Lane Kiffen.

Gators opened as 6 point favorite and it climbed to 7.5 points. I guess that means the bettors are going with the Gators to win.
