5 in a row is never easy in the NFL. To have a chance at a playoff spot, they need to win out. That would be a 9 game win streak and would require away victories at the Titans and Saints. Home victories vs. the Jets and Patriots. *IF* they get to the final game of the season at 9-7, it will be interesting when the Patsies come to visit.

Anyhow the big take away is that the defense has been finally playing they way they were expected to play and Tua, since returning from injury, has been one of the most efficient QBs in the NFL. Those two walk off field goal losses because the defense was playing bad will be the reason the Fins don't actually make the playoffs.

The brightest part of this season outside of Tua's progression is that it really looks like the fins knocked this draft out of the park. Waddle just set the rookie team record for reception (and is very close to yardage too) and should easily break the NFL record for receptions by a rookie barring injury. The lights also turned on for Phillips, who has already broken the team sack record for rookies. Then there is Holland who, even as a rookie, is already one of the top safeties in the NFL.

Dolphins' playoff picture: Chances are good only with wins in all four remaining games

https://www.yahoo.com/entertai...es-good-213137779.html

The door remains open for the Dolphins.

All they have to do to enter is finish the regular season on a nine-game winning streak (and get a bit of help).

Anything less and it's all over.

That's the takeaway from numbers-crunching via the playoff predictor at fivethirtyeight.com, which says that despite being in 13th place in the AFC, the Dolphins have a 77 percent chance of reaching the postseason if they win out.

Because they still only stand in 11th place in the AFC standings despite having won their past six games, the Dolphins basically have to win out to have a chance of making the playoffs. Their prospects of making the playoffs with a 9-8 record is 10 percent at best, per 538, and that's if their one loss comes against the Saints next Monday night.

If the Dolphins can go 3-0 the rest of the way to cap a remarkable season-ending nine-game streak, their percentage goes up to 71 percent with other results around the AFC in the final three weeks not even taken into account.

But here's a great nugget from 538, the Dolphins would have a 98 percent chance if they indeed finish 10-7 and the Buffalo Bills defeat the New England Patriots next Sunday at Gillette Stadium. A New England win in that game would drop the Dolphins' playoff chances to 52 percent even if Miami ends up 10-7.

The reason the Bills-Pats game will have such a heavy influence on the Dolphins' playoff prospects obviously is that multi-team tiebreakers for one or more wild-card berth first involves solving division tiebreakers first - and the Bills already have swept the Dolphins, who also would have a sweep of the Patriots if they finish 10-7.

There are still a lot of things to be settled, but we'll get more clarity (maybe)in Week 16 when the schedules includes matchups like Baltimore and Cincinnati, Kansas City at Pittsburgh and Denver at Las Vegas, among others.

Remaining games:
Miami (7-7): at New Orleans (6-7), at Tennessee (9-5), New England (9-5) ... Remaining opponent combined winning percentage: .585

Fins Saints, MNF. Siants have 21 players and 4 coaches out due to covid protocols.

Need to win them all.

Beat Tennessee this week, beat New England the week after that, and the Miami Dolphins are going to the playoffs.

For Dolphins, it's simple math: 2 wins, and playoffs await

The fins had players out too for the game and had to play the week prior without 2 of their biggest stars. It is happening to all the teams and why the NFL has adjusted their protocols twice in as many weeks. Really, they need to adjust them more.

About the game though, the difference between the various Siants QBs to suit up this year was minimal. They weren't going to put up much in the way of points and the couple of defensive starters out wouldn't of made a difference tbh.

Ryan Tannehill vs his old team tomorrow at 1pm. I'm hoping the fins win to set up the winner take all game vs the Pats in Miami next week. Both teams would likely be fighting for the same spot.

Multiple teams clinched spots in the AFC playoffs in Week 17 as the conference's postseason picture began to crystalize Sunday.

The Tennessee Titans clinched the AFC South title on the strength of their victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The Dolphins' loss also was cause for celebration in New England as the Patriots clinched a playoff spot following their blowout win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

A third consecutive trip to the postseason has been punched by the Buffalo Bills by virtue of their win over the Atlanta Falcons and the Baltimore Ravens' last-minute loss to Los Angeles Rams.

Tennessee has now won back-to-back AFC South crowns for the first time since the division's inception in 2002.

Perhaps, but Flores is a much better coach than Gase was. The record is the record, but anyone following the team can see that. The GM needs to go, despite striking gold in the draft this year. A real OC needs to be brought in and the historically bad Oline needs to be fixed. It is still impossible to tell what the fins have in Tua because he still managed some success with no running game behind one of the worst lines in the history of the NFL.

"behind one of the worst lines in the history of the NFL"

The Jaguars say hello.

Pretty good win streak though for the Dolphins. Gives hope for next year. NFL playoffs should be interesting.

I am basing this strictly off pass blocking and run blocking metrics. Sadly, the fins weren't just worst in the NFL this year, but the worst ever since some of the metrics began getting recorded. The only reason why they even looked serviceable at times is because Tua was getting the ball out the 3rd fastest in the NFL and is good at dancing around the pocket.

Brian Flores has been fired by the Miami Dolphins after three seasons, the team announced.

General manager Chris Grier will remain with the team in his current role, ESPN's Jeff Darlington is reporting.

Despite speculation that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was interested in hiring Jim Harbaugh as coach, the Dolphins are not targeting the Michigan coach for their opening, sources told Darlington.

"I made a decision today to part ways with Brian Flores," Ross said in a statement released by the team. " After evaluating where we are as an organization and what we need going forward to improve, I determined that key dynamics of our football organization weren't functioning at a level I want it to be and felt that this decision was in the best interest of the Miami Dolphins. I believe we have a talented young roster in place and have the opportunity to be much better in 2022. I want to thank Brian for his hard work and wish him nothing but the best in his future."

The Dolphins finished 9-8 this season, recovering from a 1-7 start but failing to make the playoffs.

Flores, 40, was 24-25 in three seasons as the team's coach.

He was hired by the Dolphins in 2019 after spending 11 seasons on the New England Patriots, staff, the last eight coaching defense.

Grier should have been out too. I guess striking gold this draft saved his job.

the Dolphins problem is the asshole owner, Stephen Ross,
