>>The XM5 and XM250 represent the biggest shift in Army small arms in more than half a century. The Army has used the 5.56-millimeter round since Vietnam, and the shift to 6.8-millimeter will likely inspire many allies to make the same move. However, the most important advance is not in the new rifle or ammunition, but in the new XM157 fire control optic, which automatically judges the distance to target and corrects the user's aim. Such an advance, which helps shooters hit a target at longer ranges with minimal training, is probably the most important advance in infantry small arms in a century. <<

I've always liked 6.5 for shooting flat, but fighter jet optics are just the first step toward robot soldiers, who will eventually become self aware and kill us all.

So the ammunition is changed from 5.56x45 to 6.8x51, while 7.62x51 is a US and NATO standard, what is the cost of that new round which is .82mm (.032in) smaller.

Look for Sig Fury .277 (which is SIGs commercial variant). A few places are selling the weapon and ammo. $1500 -$1700 for the weapon, "about" $30 for a box of 20 rounds.

SIG Sauer CROSS .277 Fury

And, , , , , , , the Gun Haters ARE NOT going to like this one, , , , , , , it looks TOO SCARY !!!!

BUT,, , , , , , , , , it is "bolt action", not semi-auto !!!!!!!!!!!

Seems like all that equipment has a short shelf life.

Chassis rifles have been around for a long time, made popular by the precision
shooting sports.

Google "rifle chassis" or "precision rifle chassis" and you will see a lot of the variations and engineering that has gone into these rifles.

A well tuned chassis gun can be scary accurate with the right ammo in the right hands.
