2 early thoughts:
- Joega would have beaten ANY college team last night! - Last night's ass kicking was NOT a very good argument for an expanded playoff! ------------------------- "Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do." - Bertrand Russell "Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. One columnist said that Georgia "eviscerated" TCU.

Final AP Poll 1 dawgs 2 TCU 3 Michigan 4 yuckeyes 5 bama Based on how Ohio State performed against UGa, I expected them to be #2 in that poll. Funny thing about Alabama is they are the only other team that could have given the Dawgs a real game (assuming they retained their focus, as oppose to their erratic losses). In the end though, I think the expanded playoff is a good thing. Maybe 8 teams instead of 12, but it can help to (slowly) build some parity in the game. As it is now, the most successful big-name teams attract the best talent, and thus have the most success. If players see that other schools have realistic paths to a title, it may entice them to select other schools than the traditional powerhouses. Unfortunately, players are now looking more for a realistic path to the NFL than to a title. The expanded transfer portal may accelerate that, but it might also bring more parity to the game; e.g., UGa's entire second string could form another competitive university team. One downside is that it favors experienced upperclassmen, and may lead to fewer players completing degrees because of all the issues with transferring academic credits. |

early thought: - Last night's ass kicking was NOT a very good argument for an expanded playoff! ^^This! I agree completely. Think about it this way. The Vanderbilt Commodores lost to GA by 55 points. TCU lost by 58 points. By that metric...is Vandy better than TCU? Vanderbilt didn't even qualify (nor should they have) for a bowl and TCU was selected to the BCS. Every 5 years or so there are maybe 5-6 teams good enough to win it all. Most years it really is only 2 or three. No need for an expansion. It will make the regular season and Conference Championships that much less meaningful. Watering down the product will result in less interest, not more. ------------------------- Slide On |

College football playoff expansion to 12 teams: How will it work and when will it start?
The Playoff will expand college football's playoff tournament from four teams to twelve, adding two extra rounds of competition. How will a 12-team College Football Playoff work? The top four conference champions will be followed by the top six at-large bids and the two highest-ranked remaining conference champions in the 12-team format. Ordered by College Football Playoff rankings. That assures at least one "Group of 5? club will reach the Playoff each year and, although rare, provides more than one G5 team to replace a "Power 5? team. Keep in mind Notre Dame, Army, UConn, and UMass, who are not conference members, will never be in the top four under the authorized system. They cannot win a conference title. No independent club will ever get a Playoff bye. Seeds 5-8 host playoff games against seeds 9-12, giving the top four a bye. After that, the remaining eight teams will play in the New Year's Day 6 bowls (Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Cotton, and Peach). After that, the quarterfinal and semifinal bowls will swap annually. The top team will then pick its quarterfinal opponent and location. Next, the No. 2 and No. 3 teams will choose their venues. Finally, the No. 4 team automatically plays in the quarterfinals' final bowl. The highest-ranked team entering the semifinals will choose its bowl, while the other two will play in the Playoff's last bowl by default. https://en.as.com/ncaa/college...-when-will-it-start-n/ |
