It's a full on assault of Brevard which was once a nice place to live and hang out with locals and the surf vibe along with a community is long gone. People shitting on street corners at Canova, bums hanging out on every street corner and not a Florida plate in site. Originally from N. Ga and moved here in 2000 and I cannot stomach this area anymore. Someone filming me catching a fish and threatening to call the FWC on me if I didn't throw it back even though it was legal. The anger and hostility I see here now is unfathomable. There is no sense of community as I once felt and am wanting to bolt the hell outta here. Anyone feel the same or am I alone here?

Brevard has gotten noticeable more populated. More coming as well. Viera is booming.

I'm glad I experienced Brevard as a young kid in the late 70s. Those days are long gone.

The good thing, it's not Melboring anymore!

world pop passed 8 billion, is anyone surprised what happened in Brevard? Been here for decades and I am not phased (except for loss of 1st peak). the thing is right NOW is going to be so much better than 20 years from now, you can complain (and I still do) but one day in the distant future we will say "man Brevard was so much better in 2023 than it is now"..sad but true, next up will be the Emerald Lagoon massive dev at the MLB airport area, ST John's Reserve, Massive Dev on 192 West of I-95...it goes on and on and will never stop...Today is GREAT in Brevard (when you compare it to 10-15, 20 years from now)...Maybe just maybe a true CAT 6 will impact and level everything, maybe, many will get tired of the Canes (if it happens) but that will be IMO the only thing to slow the roll of progress and possibly reset the area and as a bonus we may finally get that inlet at S. Patrick (at least for a while)

Speaking of which, I just finished reading Rusty Fischer's new book on Cocoa Beach history of Bernard Surf. Can find it on amazon. It's a great read.

You let the Northerners in. A couple here or there was fine, but then the Real Estate, Handyman, Restaurant industries just opened the gates

You can never go home as they say.

It was pretty sweet here around the millennium. Laid back, affordable, good schools, no traffic.

Oh well. Capitalism gonna capitalize.

I'm disgusted with the fact that politicians are continually selling out the state for economic gains. Florida is well on it's way to being ruined.

Garcia is spot on. Funny how long time residents complain about development, yet continue voting in the same state and local republican leadership, maintaining that "if it's good for "businesses" and property tax base in the short term, then it must be good for the State, County, Municipality, and residents." How many residents actually own businesses directly benefiting from policies geared towards packing in as many bodies as possible, with no conditions. If you don't like what you're getting, yet refuse to change course, then not much to complain about.

Everything went down the shit-chute the moment Crawford won The Pipe.

When the summers in FL are as brutal as winters in Bah-ston maybe the tide will turn.

I remember watching Crawford win the Pipe on Wide World of Sports. My mentor who was about five or ten years my senior said to me when I asked him, are you gonna watch the Pipe contest this afternoon? "Heck no. I'd rather watch myself surf." He probably was the only one out. The Thrill of Victory, the agony of defeat. Same as it ever was, [only different]

Lots of new government money flowing into Brevard.
Not a lot of those jobs are going to mullet heads.
People with the right skills are coming in from all sorts of places.
They want big new houses.

It's not just here. Have you noticed the square miles of wetlands flattened just east of OIA? Or the thousand home neighborhood going up on Canoe creek road south of St Cloud? How about the homes and ranches that now extend from Okeechobee to the Kissimmee River floodplain? Then there is the solid line of urban vomit from from I4 and 27 all the way to south Lake Placid. Neighborhoods on 60 east of the river? Yep. Hell, there is a new cluster of homes going up next to 95 and 192.

Then there are the sod farms to supply all this new construction. Sod farms use weed killer. Rain moves weed killer into our waterways.

I was right.
