ABC Australia story about a bodysurfer who found himself really far offshore at Byron Bay. So he called for help. I spotted this while looking for something else.

I may have to reconsider my opinion of those.
------------------------- "One of the reasons why propaganda tries to get you to hate government is because it's the one existing institution in which people can participate to some extent and constrain tyrannical unaccountable power." Noam Chomsky. |

It is great this guy's watch potentially saved his life. The downside is that to use the SOS feature on an Apple watch, you have to have the following...
"Emergency SOS requires a cellular connection or Wi-Fi calling with an Internet connection from your Apple Watch or nearby iPhone." ------------------------- "Surf everyday as though it were a gift!" -- John Holeman |

I've enjoyed the GPS on my Apple Phone 6. Old enough to be amazed that such a tiny device can get data from satellites. Dick Tracy would have been amazed. The model with cell phone is more expensive and there's the cost of cell phone service.

Wife got me an Apple Watch after several instances of locking myself out of my car after surfing and needing to ask strangers to borrow their phones. The additional line was only $10 added to my existing phone/data plan, but the watch itself is about $200 more than the GPS only, which still works for calling/texting as long as you're standing right outside your car with your iPhone inside.
