So, found myself with some free time so started watching movies/shows on music Here is my latest. I'll add to it when I do watch some shows. Please recommend some also.
"Bolden" I actually watched this twice. Once by myself and another with the wife as I recommended it. I thought it was a well done show. It is about New Orleans Jazz inventor Buddy Bolden at the turn of the century. Not much was known about him so artistic license was used to create a story and a myth/legend on the trumpist/Cornet player. It was a surreal art-flick. A series of flashbacks to flashbacks. Be patient with it and don't be distracted while watching. Music was created by Wynston Marsalis. Listen with a great sound system as the music is great. NOLA Jazz. I would recommend this. Some reviews/critics kill the movie, but I thought it was well done. It was only in the movie theaters for one weekend. I think i watched it with Amazon Prime. "Keith Richards: Under The Influence" Watched last night on Netflix. Well done rocumentary with really insightful and camera in the face of Keith and him giving you philosophy mixed with rock and Blues history. This is well done show. Old rolling stone clips and home video provided by Keith Richards. Flashes back to when the Stones visited Chicago Chess records and connected to their Blues heros. I enjoyed this one greatly. "American Satan" I found this on Cinemax. This is a fictional movie based on a young band moving to Hollywood and the Sunset Strip and invariably making a deal with the devil to make it in the music business. Entertaining and hit all the cliche's of Rock-n-Roll being the devil's music. Turns into a love story at the end. Some humor in it and the music is all hair metal. I enjoyed this movie. I haven't googled it yet and see what the critics said but they probably killed it. But, I thought it was worth a watch. "Danny Says" documentary about legendary David Fields who is probably best known for managing the Ramones. Along others. This was an interesting and insightful show with a lot of interviews with people from the 50s to 90s who were in the music biz or rock stars. This was on Netflix. I never knew about him but just watched it on the review of it. Its interesting. Shocking at times. This guy had his fingers on the pulse of the music biz. Just finished watching on netflix "The Doors: When You're Strange" narrated by Johnny Depp. This was a very good documentary. Nothing I didn't already knew about the doors but some great home videos mixed with concert and other footage. Really liked this one.

I saw "Yesterday" movie. The one where the Beatles were mysteriously erased from history and everyone's memory except one person. He capitalizes on that and becomes a big international star by playing beatles songs and claiming them as his own. I recommend this movie. it was entertaining. If you watch the trailer it is pretty much just like the trailer. It looks like the movie is still at the movie theaters so wait for that to hit the netflix's. worth a watch.

This movie has some really good reviews. Some music movies I like: The Dirt (Netflix) This was surprisingly good, story about Motly Crue. 24 Hour Party People About Factory Records/Manchester 80's - Early 90's music ie Joy Dvision , New Order, and start of rave culture wth Happy Mondays. Inside Llewyn Davis Coen Borthers film about a struggling folk singer in the 60's School of Rock jack Black classic. If you like music at all you'll like this movie. Whiplash Intens film about an ambitious jazz drummer and an abusive instructor. Watch this one immediately if you have not seen it. Straight Outta Compton Biopic about NWA, beginning of gangster rap. Control Biopic about Joy Division lead singer, should watch with 24 Hour party people. Jazz Singer Just because Neil Diamond |

I highly recommend, a documentary on the muscle shoals AL recording studios. I believe on netflix, amazing how much music came out of there, and how most the studio players were very young and green but had that rhythm and soul!

Not new, but "Cadillac Records" was a good one... especially if you're a Blues fan.

Rocket Man is in the redbox now. And yes, that Muscle Shoals doc was outstanding.

Scott Pilgrim!!!
I loved the Wrecking Crew documentary on Netflix - not sure it's still available. I think we discussed it a while back on here. ------------------------- [Feminism is] a socialist, anti-family, political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians. ~Pat Robertson |
