These are the only two choices... No ties... If you don't like either, keep scrolling!

Tears for Fears are cooler, but Hall and Oates more hits.

Tears for fears were on alt-rock-new-wave radio where as Hall and Oates on soft rock radio.

Tears for fears were cooler. But listen to family man from hall and Oates again, a very interesting song.

Their apples and oranges. Setting aside H&O's cheesiness here and there, H&O is in a different league - commercial success, songwriting, arranging, creating memorable hooks (often copied), orchestration, longevity, versatility, command of instruments, collaboration.... Tears for Fears had some cool songs over a narrow window. H&O has been going strong since early 70s and they continue - solo and collaborating. Hall and Oates - No Contest

H an O had more hits, but none beat this, IMO.

A great cover.

And I've seen both performers live, some 30 odd years apart.
