It is all bullshit. it is the grifter in him.
He doesn't have a real plan and his strategy is to just wing it and do whatever he feels like on that day.

He is a horrible negotiator, and pretty much everything he touches is a clusterfk.

" For months, the Trump administration has said deals are imminent, working with 18 key partners to lower trade barriers while hundreds of other countries wait in line to get out from under the burden of higher tariffs.

At one point, Trump said 200 deals were possible and nearly done.

"I've made all the deals," Trump said in a Time interview in late April, saying trade negotiations with foreign partners were nearly complete. "I've made 200 deals."

More than two weeks later, Trump acknowledged that hundreds or even dozens of deals aren't possible on such a short timeframe - a point he reiterated last Friday at a press briefing at the White House.

"You know, we have 200 countries," Trump said. "We can't do that. So at a certain point, over the next week and a half or so, or maybe before, we're going to send out a letter. We talked to many of the countries, and we're just going to tell them what they have to pay to do business in the United States. And it's going to go very quickly."

Just more lies. A six year old would be sent to bed without supper if they behaved this way.

>>President Trump is set to send out a first batch of letters Monday to other nations informing them of new tariff rates, but those tariffs won't go into effect until Aug. 1, White House officials said.
Trump has in recent days teased that his administration will begin informing countries of the tariff rate they will pay to do business in the United States, essentially punting on efforts to broker trade deals with dozens of other nations after he paused "reciprocal" tariffs for 90 days.<<

The world thinks we are all wankers now.
our President can't even retain a cohesive trade plan for more than a few days.
Wearing a MAGA hat in Europe is pretty much the mark of an asshole to them.

Trade Negotiating for Dummies - When too lazy to actually negotiate with a country just issue a badly written letter demeaning them and make some trade threats.
That will make them respect you and seal the deal.

Letter to Korea:

"With best wishes, I am, Sincerely, (signed trump)"
WTF does that even mean?

Idiocracy was a documentary

BTW,

"U.S.-Vietnam trade restrictions would today be very, very low if Trump hadn't walked away from TPP in 2017," said Scott Lincicome, an expert in trade at the libertarian think tank Cato Institute.

I noticed a recent big hike in coffee and a few other of my staples too.
It'll get really fun a few months after the tariffs actually kick in.
He got lucky with the tariffs in his first term, since the economic chaos caused by the pandemic masked the effects.
I'm reviewing a construction cost study for work by Kimley-Horn and they did an accounting for the effects of the tariffs.
They were significant in the disruption of the availability of materials supplies causing shortages and big price spikes.
