Socialism is public, democratic ownership of the means of production. It's a democratic economy which allocates resources to produce what the people need, rather than what the rich will buy. It means an end to economic exploitation of the workers, and the alienation from the fruits of their labor. In a mixed democratic socialist economy, all essential products and services would be socialised, such as health care, education, and public housing.

It means an end to economic exploitation of the workers, and the alienation from the fruits of their labor. In a mixed democratic socialist economy, all essential products and services would be socialised, such as health care, education, and public housing. Green New Deal Senator Edward Markey and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez released a fourteen-page resolution[8] for their Green New Deal on February 7, 2019. According to The Washington Post (February 11, 2019), the resolution calls for a "10-year national mobilization" whose primary goals would be:[46] "Guaranteeing a job with a family-sustaining wage, adequate family and medical leave, paid vacations, and retirement security to all people of the United States." "Providing all people of the United States with - (i) high-quality health care; (ii) affordable, safe, and adequate housing; (iii) economic security; and (iv) access to clean water, clean air, healthy and affordable food, and nature." "Providing resources, training, and high-quality education, including higher education, to all people of the United States." "Meeting 100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources." "Repairing and upgrading the infrastructure in the United States, including .?.?. by eliminating pollution and greenhouse gas emissions as much as technologically feasible." "Building or upgrading to energy-efficient, distributed, and 'smart' power grids, and working to ensure affordable access to electricity." "Upgrading all existing buildings in the United States and building new buildings to achieve maximal energy efficiency, water efficiency, safety, affordability, comfort, and durability, including through electrification." "Overhauling transportation systems in the United States to eliminate pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector as much as is technologically feasible, including through investment in - (i) zero-emission vehicle infrastructure and manufacturing; (ii) clean, affordable, and accessible public transportation; and (iii) high-speed rail." "Spurring massive growth in clean manufacturing in the United States and removing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing and industry as much as is technologically feasible." "Working collaboratively with farmers and ranchers in the United States to eliminate pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector as much as is technologically feasible." ------------------------- The REAL truth is....both of the forum idiots are OWNED. -BOTH of them have no clue who their owner is. -They are both card carrying narcissists. ^These are PROVED facts. |

It's never been properly tried. Capitalism fails about every ten years and the tax payers get duped into propping it up again (too "big" to fail means too many at the top are making money, so pay up sucker).
Most of the world has socialized parts if not all of their healthcare systems and they deliver superior outcomes at lower costs without the capitalists taking a cut. Wherever in the world, or even in our country (public education) where it's implemented, those who could profit from destroying it do everything possible to make it fail. Look at the politicians who try to undermine the public school system, look close and you'll see they have ties and take money from the private "charter school" industry. They want to funnel public funds into private hands, and by starving the public schools of resources and cherry picking out the best students, they can stand back and point at it and say "it's failed". The USA and it's allies have waged full on economic war on every country who has tried anything close to socialism, so don't tell me they "failed" while you're standing on their neck. ------------------------- “It is the heart of US policy to use fascism to preserve capitalism while claiming to be saving democracy from communism “ - Michael Parenti |

Many of you blame Obamacare, but your insurance costs you $10,000 a year because it is a highly profitable, for profit industry.
And Rusty is correct about education. 90% of kids attend public schools, but states divert public monies to fund for-profit institutions. It ain't rocket science. ------------------------- I was right. |

Many of you blame Obamacare, but your insurance costs you $10,000 a year because it is a highly profitable, for profit industry. It currently costs 10k a year because of OBAMA! FACT! If healthcare were allowed to compete over state lines it would be CHEAP! Cant get a demoshit commie to vote for that though! ------------------------- The REAL truth is....both of the forum idiots are OWNED. -BOTH of them have no clue who their owner is. -They are both card carrying narcissists. ^These are PROVED facts. |

In a mixed democratic socialist economy, all essential products and services would be socialised, such as health care, education, and public housing. I think the problem lies in how meriam webster defines it, the collective/GOVERNment/STATe ownership of production and distribution ......since the public has yet to work in cohesion without a government, they would be involved and in control and some wont get what they want and so it fails. The reason it doesnt work is you cant please everyone all the time..... Under capitalism people can do what it takes to get what they want. ------------------------- I troll 2L.com to be a better person in real life |

The reason it doesnt work is you cant please everyone all the time..... Under capitalism people can do what it takes to get what they want. "Under capitalism people can do what it takes to get what they want" Yes, and that means using whatever means possible to gain control over markets and then government. Once established, you're left with an oligarchy where the vast majority of wealth produced goes to the ruling class. This is where we are today, and the system is unsustainable. Stock markets soar, while young workers hustle in the "gig" economy with no benefits. Housing becomes more and more unaffordable as speculators drive up prices. The earth is poisoned as environmental costs are shifted to future generations. All in the name of so called free markets and maximization of share holder wealth. The dirty secret is that we have the wealth and productive capacity to provide a comfortable standard of living for all, but for the greed of the few. ------------------------- “It is the heart of US policy to use fascism to preserve capitalism while claiming to be saving democracy from communism “ - Michael Parenti |
