The flu is not more virulent than covid.

Weeks 25-26 influenza & influenza-like illness (ILI) activity summary - In weeks 25-26, no specimens tested positive for influenza at BPHL

Now compare this to Covid in FL right now.

Sniper, you're dumb.

You can't discern that from the CDC per capita numbers that you linked. You have to look at the per case rates to make that determination. You are assuming that the number of people that have had Covid-19 so far is comparable to the number of people that get the flu in a year. Do you have a basis for that assumption?

There are multiple issues going on here. Are you likely to get Covid-19? Yep. Is there a good chance you will be hospitalized or die from it. The more data we received, the more it is looking like unless you are over 65 years old and/or have preexisting conditions that Covid-19 just isn't that deadly. So, why the hell are all of the schools closed? Because 7-8% of grandparents help watch kids? That makes sense. SMH The more data we receive, the less deadly the virus looks but nobody is supposed to think for themselves. Everyone is just supposed to agree that all the businesses should have to run at limited capacity indefinitely because a relatively small percentage of the population, most of whom we can identify, are at risk. If I fell into that group, I wouldn't expect the world to revolve around me. It would be totally reasonable to me if I was expected to protect myself without having to take food straight out of the mouths of our small business owners' kids in order to do it.

Only in Trump USA. New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc... that isn't the case. What is the difference?

You haven't shown such data. The cumulative per capita hospitalization doesn't factor the case hospitalization rate or death rate. So where are your data? Are you going to check back in two weeks when the 100,000 FL infections that have occurred in the last two weeks should be putting a few thousand people in the hospital or in a month when we should expect 500 to 1000 of them to start dying off? I have never seen a flu that infects a few hundred people at a packing plant then kills a half dozen or so.

Talked to my neighbor- he said this new narrative is full of shit.

His info:

In normal times, the ICU may get to 80% capacity with *elective surgeries*

but during a pandemic the hospital cancels all elective and non-critical surgeries to MAKE ROOM for the pandemic cases.. which is where we are now.

So if you hear that the ICU is at 80, 85, 90% capacity right now, that is ALL COVID and emergencies.

Which equals = you're fucked, because it's not even Fall/Wave 2 yet.

I asked him what will likely happen in the Fall, and he said- "see you in the parking lot tent"

Central Florida critical care beds are full. Central Florida hospitalizations have increase by 100 percent in the last two weeks.

The virus doesn't care how you parse numbers to achieve your political bend.

LIAR!

As of Monday morning, Orange County hospitals had 511 beds available, with 499 ventilators, 58 ICU beds for adults and 46 ICU beds for children.

In Orange County, 357 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 with 72 in intensive care, according to the Florida Department of Health in Orange County. On June 28, there were 164 hospitalizations with 35 in the ICU.

In Seminole County, 137 patients are being treated in the hospital for COVID-19, up from 110 patients on Thursday. Lake and Osceola county have not released any hospitalization data.

The CDC stats lag behind - if you are using this then you are a few days late and several dollars short.

Why is any of this even an argument? There is a virus, it is highly infectious, it has high rates of hospitalization/deaths compared to anything else. This is not that difficult.

You want to help the economy? Then wear a fucking mask

Thanks to CDC denial that there was community spread in the US (as they were directed to do by their boss) NYC had Rona spreading in its insanely dense population for a couple of months and didn't know it until the bodies started dropping. We on the other hand have testing to document the current spread. So now we will have good data on how long it takes to go from outbreak to dead bodies and good data on case fatality rate. Prior data make it look like it is about 2 months from the start of uncontained spread until the deaths really get going. We will see if that pans out.

Using Miami-Dade because they actually publish the information they track.

Miami-Dade County - Last 2 weeks

87% increase in hospitalizations
91% increase in ICU bed usage
108% increase in the use of ventilators

Covid-19 Patients Only
* Recovered patients get subtracted on discharge, new patients get added (for the idiots like sniper)

ICU Bed Usage from 180 to 343 (+163)
Admitted Patients from 885 to 1656 (+771)
Ventilator Usage from 84 to 175 (+91)

Average 2 week positivity: 23%
