Fauci Backtracks As He Admits Second Coronavirus Wave May Never Happen - Calls Mask-Wearing Symbolic
By LifeZette | May 28, 2020 3:21PM

Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, is now backtracking regarding a second wave of COVID-19, which he now admits may never happen. This is in stark contrast to the story he was pushing last month, when he steadfastly claimed the second wave was inevitable.

During an interview with CNN on Wednesday, Fauci changed his tune about the future of COVID-19, saying there may never be a second wave. "We often talk about the possibility of a second wave, or of an outbreak when you're reopening," Fauci said. "We don't have to accept that as an inevitability. Particularly, when people start thinking about the fall. I want people to really appreciate that, it could happen, but it is not inevitable."

Fauci went on to say that he is feeling more and more confidant with each passing day when it comes to America's future in dealing with coronavirus, saying that the U.S. can avoid a second wave if we are able to have the "workforce, the system, and the will to do the kinds of things that are the clear and effective identification, isolation, and contact tracing."

It should be noted that Fauci was saying the complete opposite thing just last month, when he told MSNBC that "It's inevitable that the coronavirus will return next season. ... When it does, how we handle it, will determine our fate."

As for masks, Fauci is now admitting that they may actually not do anything at all, and instead described wearing them as more of a symbolic gesture. "I want to protect myself and protect others [by mask-wearing], and also because I want to make it be a symbol for people to see that that's the kind of thing you should be doing," he said. Fauci added that while wearing masks is not 100% effective, it is a gesture that shows "respect" for other people.

It's becoming increasingly obvious to many Americans that we greatly overreacted to this pandemic, and much of this reaction can be traced back to doomsday-predictors like Fauci. Democrats then took his predictions and ran with them, in some states using them to take control of every aspect of our lives that they could.

With even Fauci backtracking, it's time for us all to calm down and focus on reopening America. Enough is enough, and it's time for this nonsense to come to an end.

Today I will change my tune from dickhead troll, calling out the liberals on here, to more of a neutral stance. With that being said, I'm curious if there is an honest rebuttal to this statement, that stays on topic, and is free from name calling. I don't have the same restraint, OBX. Do you mask wearers feel stupid now? You should. You have allowed yourselves to be fooled into walking around in public looking like a wandering band of circus freaks. But it wasn't a totally useless gesture. It cheered a lot of us up to witness such witlessness. As I have said many times, progs are herd animals. And you can get them to do pretty much anything if you know the right buttons to push. Too bad Trump didn't announce that dressing up like a clown would provide no protection at all against Corona.

No he isn't. Read his full statements instead of chopped up quotes meant to change his meaning. He still insists that mask are necessary to slow transmission. Nowhere does he say that they are mere symbols that may do nothing at all. He says they aren't 100% effective which is far different from saying "not do anything at all". One thing is for sure, if you are wearing a mask and nobody around you in close quarters is wearing a mask then your mask use useless.

He predicted 100k to 200k deaths by mid summer with mitigation. Where are we? Why are mask wearing countries like Japan far outperforming the US?

Point me in the direction of his full statement, please. No secret media takes things out of context for a narrative.

"I wear it for the reason that I believe it is effective," Fauci told CNN. "It's not 100 percent effective. I mean, it's sort of respect for another person, and have that other person respect you. You wear a mask, they wear a mask, you protect each other."
There's more. Perhaps you can provide information that unlike what you highlighted in bold is free from massive editorializing between quotes.

Fauci's full interview says that the second wave may never happen if proper precautions are followed. Opening post of this thread leaves out that very important information. That isn't a backtrack. It has always been the case. If people don't screw up then it won't be that bad, ask Japan.

Thats your tactic? I took what was posted in the initial post, and asked for rebuttal. You come on and basically say its chopped up quotes taken out of context, giving the presumption you have heard the entire speech. I ask for where that entire speech is (because I am not able to find it), and you somehow put the responsibility on me to find the source to back up your argument? That pretty weak, Scom.

N95 masks are the only ones that truly work, but you couldn't really buy them. Damm sure I got some to my elderly parents house though as luckily had some in the garage in a pile of painting materials left over from an investment house just painted & flipped before all this crazy stuff happend... I think anyone with sense knew the elderly were the primary concern, and this doom & gloom was just fear, but still wise to take measures better safe than sorry. My work won't let me into office without a mask & health check so I don't really have a choice anyways. However, I'd much rather be a little uncomfortable wearing it and possibly prevent spread or getting as opposed to only caring about myself & how I feel. Selfish is not a trait I prefer...

So much irony. Point me to the direction of the full statement , no secret media taking things out of context. You mean taking things out of context like the awful editorializing article thing you just referenced? They are so bad they can't even do a good job taking the statement out of context. He literally says he wears a mask for the safety of himself and others ?? Fauci refutes the thesis of the article in the small blurb you posted. What else are you asking us to refute?

We all know Fauci does not believe masks have much benefit. He is well quoted in the early days of this crisis saying so. Regardless of what he says now.

doesn't matter anymore, there's an older virus made a comeback, and has taken over.
