Minneapolis local officials plan to vote Friday on the first changes to the police department. City Council President Lisa Bender said that they will "dismantle" the agency and "replace it with a transformative new model of public safety."

Very good news. This is way overdue. But it is worthless unless every blue city does the same.

I really want to see how this plays out. They are going to dismantle the existing police departments and then start working on a new model... I predict that as crime ramps up in the absence of Police protection, that the 'new' model will quickly evolve into needing more money, requiring more public obedience in the form of restricted rights, and result in more power for the bureaucracy... This is going to cost a shit ton more money than the existing model. Police have a lot of lee-way in enforcement where a new model run by bureaucrats will require anyone saying bang to be arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. and the red tape alone is going to make it hard to breath in Minneapolis...

Need more money? The police are already the most expensive item in most city budgets. It's a freaking arms race to buy as many surplus tanks and the latest body armor and CS gas canisters.
Meanwhile we can't afford PPE or school books.

It will be a disaster, of course, which is why I want them to do it. The police system we have has been in place for several thousand years and we've found nothing better in all of that time. Now, with modern technology, we will soon be able to set up a 1984-type surveillance system to supplant our current system, and that is what I believe progs will do. Needless to say, I am very much against that sort of thing and will fight against it. Progs, being the idiots they are, will fervently support it, so long as a dem is doing it. They fail to realize that they would be the first to be marched off. Hitler had the Brownshirts exterminated before any other group, after all. The useful idiots are usually the first to go.

Ancient Egyptian times, if not sooner. The pharaohs' guards started looking after things.

That's not quite the "police system we have".

Police are there to protect property of the wealthy, and serve as "customer service" for white people.

Gun and ammo manufacturers must feel like they've won the lottery.

Does anyone think that fewer innocent people will be shot when people are responsible for policing their own communities?

Au contraire. The Egyptian police specifically guarded the wealthy.

In light of how dumb they are, progs probably think that. But, otherwise no. A thousand times more blacks would die with no police than would at the hands of the police.

Point taken, but I don't think they also took calls from Egyptian Karens who reported "suspicious" Ethiopians having a cookout at Nile Front Part.
