No they did not. You are full of crap. The Republicans voted for that act. Pro-slavers were 74% of the no vote. The pro-slavers weren't about to join a party that voted for it. Florida was staunchly pro-slaver until the 1990's. People didn't go Republican because of the Civil Rights Act 28 years after its passage.
