Collaboration with Birdwell, were priced at $90 (rather than Birdwell's regular $80) thanks to added patches. Anyway, here possibly helpful for those who missed the big, brief Birdwell sale and want a 16" short.
Of course Outerknown has been selling a few colors of their most expensive ($125+) boardshorts for $58. Probably should get 1 size smaller than usual.

I like the Birdwells I picked up from that warehouse sale. Totally different to the fancy welded-seam stuff.
BTW, I ordered an Outerknown Apex for $58. Really nice, but 36 was bit loose. There's no returns, so I ordered a 34 to see what would happen and, perfect. Anyone wanting wanting a 36, pm me with an address and I'll put one in the mail.

The OKs look nice but Searched and couldn't find anything 21"
At 6'3 Those 16" would make me feel like Magnum PI!! ....but with chicken legs. Or like putting a colt buntline in a snub nose holster.

Since you got me looking I found some Patagonia 21" hydro planning model. For about half off. Figured I might live a little and try those. Anybody have pros or cons?

Get the Patagonia's used on eBay for Under 15 bucks shipped. 90% of the time they're from some guy from Minnesota that wore them once. Wash them and good to go. The birdwell 311 are about 20" inseam but not as comfortable as the Patagonia's. Also the birdwells have some weird sizing that you have to go up 2" in waist size.

Birdwells redid their sizing after the Silicon Valley guy took over so they're only a bit smaller than most of the others now. Looks like they're now trying to transition into being a made in Los Angeles apparel company.
Patagonias are great. The top of the line Hydro Planing is worth looking for used or clearance. Last pair got too big, so I'm looking for a cheap 36". Welded construction. The Outerknowns at clearance price are a good substitute. Hobie (Fragile Ocean, the store brand) is selling a decent 18" stretch short made in USA for $48 plus expensive shipping.
I swim, so 20-21 shorts are dead weight. A Patagonia advertising video, probably Malloy brothers, called their shorts "Speedos for people who don't wear Speedos." That seems about right.

Thanks goldfinger and ww. I did see some Patagonia's on ebay and found some 21" hydro planing ones I figured I would try for 40$ on steep and cheap. We will see with the slimmer fit were they fall in relation to the knee.

Looked at eBay. I oughta sell stuff there.
I've mailed a pair of 36' Outerknown Apex all-welded shorts that, as explained above, turned out to be a bit loose on my waist. Anyone else interested? Would work for someone who normally wears a 38 boardshort, or 36 and is pretty tight. Outseam is 20.5" by my measurement. PM me.

Spot on Goldfinger. I wear size 34 everything, Hurley baggies, jeans, shorts etc, loose and comfy. Got the Birdwell I ordered and there size 34 makes me feel like OJ trying on the glove. Felt like my organs were being vacuum bagged. So tight you can tell my parents were catholic. I turned sideways and wanted to smack myself on the ass. Yeah, they are going back for some 36's...

Honestly, why spend that much on swimwear? I go out in my jorts. I would not even spend that on a surfboard lol.
