Use tiny ass flash jigs. You'll be amazed at the size of the fish that will hit them.

I've gotten three snook in the 36 to 40 inch range on Pilchards. Quite the fight on the Summer Flounder setup.

Yeah i love small bait and lures, light tackle. I catch my biggest fish on them. Jumped a GIANT tarpon 3-4 jumps on a gotcha plug. Good fight until he broke the tiny thin hooks lol

Yeah man. I bought some of those expensive Hoagy baits and they get chomped by blues and mackerel. No way to replace plastic. It sucks.

The Blues were nipping the tails off my Storm swimmers, so I switched to bucktails and never got a hit. Needless to say, the second day of snook season (didn't know the season opened and wondered why in the hell it was so packed on Super Bowl Sunday) wasn't all that...

Saw a couple keepers caught out of 10,000 casts made, thought I wouldn't expect a whole lot more with the water approaching 60 degrees. We ended up with a little flounder, a Blue, some chewed up baits and couple solid misses on Mojarra.

Fished the surf yesterday, got a whiting and a small mackerel. My friend got some nice sheepies and a bucket full of nice palometas. Water is cleaned up but it is now muy frio.

How do the Palometas taste?

I walked Cocoa beach with the Pomp jig and never got a hit. The water looked perfect too. Bruce Reagan got some nice Pompano, but I can't divulge where or he won't make my surfboards anymore.

LOL no worries pomps move around. They taste a lot like pompano, not as rich and buttery.

This seems to be the only thread going so I'll add here. I am going to start taking my 1 yr old down to the beach during the evenings. I might as well get a line in the water while I'm at it. Does any sort of cut bait work? I doubt I'll be able to throw a buck tail or any type of lure with a 1yr old on my hip. Any suggestions would be great.

Pomps like sandfleas, clams and shrimp (shrimp and clams for the whiting)... clams stay on the hook the best

Cut bait could get blues, sharks, maybe a red. I would go with "plan b" and get the double hook pompano rig and use small bits of shrimp or clam and maybe a piece of fish bites.

I go with the "just catch something method." Cut bait for the scent and trash fish, and clams and fresh cut shrimp for the tasty ones.

I put out four rods with cut mullet the other day and the chaos from the Blues kept the teenagers sprinting up and down the beach. Pure fun.

I used to walk up hill both ways in the snow to get to school. I guess we are just a tougher generation.

We have snook and croaker on the beach already. On the minus side, the sharks are here with them; lots of sharks.

I bet inlet is blowing up.

Mojarra are packed into the inlet; snook, jacks and reds are making the most of them. There are some weeds flowing through, but it is fish able.
